Assistance with E450 purchase

I'm trying to make a deal on a E450 in the greater Seattle area. I want to order the vehicle. They are offering 4% off sticker. Seems rather low to me. They claim that Mercedes has made some changes in the available profit for dealers this year. They say that around 2k off is the new norm, where it used to be 7-8k off in recent years. Can anyone shed any light on this. Is it true? Thanks in advance.

Have you tried a different dealer?

I got 12% off the E450 Wagon I ordered about 1.5 months ago. That is supposed to be an employee discount, which I think is better than average, but my local MB dealer offered me 8% off MSRP without even haggling. Then wouldn't go lower.

Shop around. I got more than 10% off on my 2018 E400C when I bought it new two years ago from MB of South Bay in Torrance, CA, which is an AutoNation dealership. The price was offered on-line, the discounts are significant, and there was no negotiating — which apparently is becoming an increasingly common practice in this area. You might try searching that dealer's website and perhaps others owned by AutoNation. BTW, I've been very happy with both the deal and the service I received there.

If it helps, I just purchased a new '19 E4504S Wagon last month which was at the high end of the spectrum due to options including the P62 Designo Black/Grey Titanium Premium Nappa Leather ($4900 option) at 12.8% off the MSRP. Granted it was a '19 with the new 20's coming out but was a car that had all the options I wanted.

I agree - IMO, leftover 2019 models should be around 15%, maybe 20% as we grind toward December and new (in stock) 2020 models should at least be in the 7 to 8% range, probably approaching 10% as holidays approach. Certainly, people do better than this - many successful business people on here and people with long term relationships with their dealers do better than average - and those groups are probably over-represented in MB and other premium vehicle buyers.

Was able to get 11% off a wagon with very little local inventory and not much work in August - there was probably another percent or two to get - with the MB Financial offer to cover 4 remaining payments, they even refunded the last payment that I had already made and then waived the final 3. So - if you include that $700 off, I was in the 12% range.

I think it's easier in larger markets (NY, LA, S Florida) with more competition, but I feel like it is possible in a small (two dealer) market like Charlotte with a little work.

Timing and who you talk to has a lot to do with it, too. My local dealer offered 8%, first offer but wouldn't go any more. I don't think that's /too/ bad, and would have gone with it, but waited longer, as I could. I'd contacted TrueCar and other similar sites, and had "managers" of a dealership in the neighboring state call me, only to offer me 6% on 2019s, and "whatever TrueCar says" on 2020s (TrueCar only applies to in-stock cars, and there were no 2020 E-Class in stock at the time). I went through another site, and a girl from Internet sales from the same place called. I told her I was just after the maximum discount % off MSRP, based on an MSRP of about $80k. None of this "Well come and drive one, and what color do you like?", she said she'd get back to me. Well, another manager called shortly thereafter, I explained what I wanted, he started with 7% off, and I said I'd already gotten 8%. He said, "Well, we'll do what we need to to get your business. I can give you the employee discount of 12%." I said "Done!" So, 3-4 people from the same dealership, some "managers", but the last call worked.

That stinks! 4% is awful. You might consider leveraging the European Delivery program where you automatically get 7% off MSRP. You can usually get 3-5% additional from the dealer for a total of around 10-12%.

Speaking of European Delivery, we ordered a 2019 E450 Cabriolet last November for an April 2019 pick up in Sindelfingen. The automatic 7% discount is actually more if you consider the $995 delivery charge is not added to the cost. That adds another 1% or more to the MB discount. There are dealers all over the country offering additional percentage discounts from their “profit” also. If you go to a dealer and they do not give you at least an additional 3% keep looking. Even though we spent most of our savings on the car picking it up, we still in essence got a free two week vacation in Europe. We drove from Germany, through Austria, Italy, France, Switzerland and back to Germany. We thoroughly enjoyed exploring the countries in our own car....

I purchased a 2020 E450 sedan in the Seattle area a couple of days ago for roughly 9% below MSRP.

If you are willing to buy a 2019, you should get a higher discount. I did not find any 2019s with the packages/options I liked.

Similarly, wagons are going for a higher discount as well per my understanding as they are not moving as fast as MB hoped.

Found better deal for my E450

I previously reported an offer of 4% off MSRP for a 2020 E450. Build would start in late Jan. I found a much better deal of 10% off, which I accepted. Delivery expected by mid Jan. I was surprised at the big difference.

That's great, Maxrich! And now you've established a relationship/discount for use in the future. ;-)

If you haven’t yet ordered and you’re not opposed to buying off the lot, versus a custom order, I was just able to pick up a well optioned ‘19 wagon for 20% off at the dealer yesterday. Decent amount of inventory near me, though.

2018 S560 and 2019 E450 Wagon.
Wow, thats a deal so assuming the car was 80 grand you must have got it for 64 grand, thats a deal. Sounds hard to imagine on a brand new car.

Thanks, yes ~$77k, got it for 62k (w/ fleet).

Lots of inventory here (Bay Area) on the 19s, and many have been sitting around for 6+ months. The car I test drove and purchased just had first service done @ 115 miles, meaning it was about a year old.

My guess is this is very market dependent but seems like dealers are willing to deal if conditions are right!
