Cup Holder frustration
I'm in one because I'm a carer for my Dad and he's no longer allowed to drive so he wanted a fancy motor for me to drive him around in before he passes away. We're in a 220d.
My last personal car was a Mondeo ST 2.2 tdci and I am frustrated with a reduction in quality and ergonomics in various elements of more modern "exec" cars.
The stock stereo is still inferior to the sony unit in my mondeo, which came as standard with the car. The 2012 BMW 5 series I was in prior was absolutely shocking.. worst stereo I've heard since my Peugeot 106
Also, why can't I have the option of an aux input.. once tiny little port.. is that so much to ask for? When I plug my ipod into the usb port, the interface I'm forced to use is so slow it's basically unusable, it would take about 10 mins to scroll to the Z on my artist list. Yet I have an SD card slot?? who even uses SD cards? Does anyone know if it's possible to add an aux input?
I've jumped 2 cars now without a proper multifunctional and frustration free cup/can holder. (it's the little things) My old mondeo had a simple hole behind gear stick that fit a can and a cup AND it had a fast food cup holder in the centre console. You throw the car around a corner and neither would go anywhere.. The stowage package is evidently only for fast food cups. Something I'm almost never drinking in the car, I'm usually drinking a can.
So.. to my point. do any of you know where I can get an adapter that fits cans? I've had a quick look on ebay but I can't seem to find anything. I can't be the only one frustrated by this glaring missing functionality.
Also I have a very rattley rear view mirror.. does anyone know of a fix for that?
PS. I also want my proper hand brakes back as an option in modern cars.

We have different models in the UK and you may be better off asking your question on one of the UK sites.
know I'm the minority, obviously everyone else my age is using spotify pretty much exclusively. I'm the weirdo but.. why does it have to be either or.. you can have all the inputs and please everyone.
I will try the SD slot.. but 50k tracks, navigated incredibly slowly, is of no interest to me. If you're saying the system speeds up when using an SD then I'll look into it. Perhaps I need an OTA update? but I need to go to Mercedes to get the vin changed over to my mercedes me account first before I can explore that.. I tried downloading the update to a usb but couldn't see an option in the menu to run the update.
I can still get about 3x more tracks on my ipod than I can get in the command system if we're saying about 3mb a track on average

lets say you have an average of 3 hours of driving time per day where you listen to that music. By my rough calculations... it would take you 7 years to go through your catalogue if you were to listen to every song once.
This is what I consider a third world problem:-)
Put a handkerchief in your cupholder, it will also take any small spills.

Who is this newbie "Spam101" wincing on about cupholders?
This is April 1st, you know...

I don't like the idea of spending 16k and then having to use a handkerchief to stabilise my beverage

I'm not aware that any cupholder can hold a can of Red Bull securely. But in that case the complaint is with Red Bull, not Mercedes-Benz.

the coke cans look like this, like slightly larger red bull cans. These dont fit well in my car that has the removable insert which is made for the shorter wider cans that they stopped selling over here a while back. I think thats the source of his complaints. What Im saying is that its a minor inconvenience and he shouldnt **** on the car because of it. Also id rather have the standard cup holders so I can fit cups from drive through.
My previous range rover evoque had a red bull can sized holder in between the regular cup holder, see the link: https://www.ebay.com/itm/Genuine-Ran...-/322299179895
I think it was a nice elegant solution to cater for everyone, weird it hasnt catched on as it doesnt increase dimensions that much

If anyone is still losing sleep over the cupholder quandry, I would find an insulated cup holder to increase the diameter of the skinny cans. Every Dollar Store here in the US has them, so I assume they're an item in skinny can countries, too.
First World issue. Folks in some countries would welcome soda cans of any size/shape.

I did come up with a somewhat novel but also a little bit crude solution that works surprisingly well.
Each cup holder has 4 tabs (2 on the outside and two on the inside). What I did was remove the assembly and glue four small rubber pieces to the outside tabs so that they would be flush with he wall of the cup holder. In the picture this is the grey thing you see. I then put three elastic bands around the entire assembly. What this does is make the 4 outside tabs of the cup holder much stiffer. Because of the design there was no way to do this with the inside tabs, but it turns out that stiffening up the outside is sufficient.
To deal with the rattling and creaking, I installed a thin pice of black foam on the floor of the tray and also added some graphite to
all the tabs and springs of the cup holder.
Problem solved. We will see how long it lasts.
