E53 Hybrid Fuse Map Location

There is a small access cover in the rear corner of the passenger side of the E53 trunk. Removing the cover exposes the fuse block which contains a slot to store the folded fuse map. The fuse map provides details for all of the fuse blocks in the car. It's very difficult to remove the fuse map and equally difficult to change a fuse. I decided to store the fuse map with the owner's manual rather than struggle to insert it back into the fuse block storage slot. If I ever had to change a fuse in this compartment, I would enlarge the opening under the access cover so that the opening started closer to the four slots for the access cover tabs.

It may be a good idea to take a picture or scan the map to a PDF to put on your phone. This way, you can easily read it at night and can zoom in on it if necessary.

Good tip. I am curious, does the non-hybrid W214 chassis provide better access to the rear fuse block?

I'll have to look the next time I'm in the trunk. I've never opened the fuse panel door yet. I'm guessing it's not much different but who knows.

The trunk floor is several inches lower in your E450 than it is in the E53. I would not be surprised if the cover is taller and when removed the entire fuse block is accessible.

Made the fuse block access hole larger to facilitate changing fuses.

You are correct, it's quite a bit taller. It's basically in the same place, but with a bit more access due to the larger opening.

[QUOTE]

E53 owners are likely to lose a few fuses while attempting to remove or install them in the rear fuse block.
