Bluetecs are a disaster. Mine was basically a total loss. The powertrain and emissions systems are cost-prohibitive outside of warranty. Third-parties don't want to pay until the timing chain snaps, and by then you're only going to receive the cash value to a certain point. Return the car.

Great feedback here about the warranties. I have a 2016 E350 4matic with 15,000 miles on it. Warranty is expiring in a month. If anyone has this same car, how much should I be expecting to pay for the 3yr/75K warranty from the finance people mentioned here many times? Does anyone have the same type of car with a warranty they purchased from an out of state dealer? If so, would you mind sharing what you paid? Thanks!

My guess is $2200 to $2500 from one of the dealers in the forum.

Thank you! I just paid $2200.00 from Cassandra and Jeff Jackson quoted me $2300.00. Both were very nice to speak to. I also called Marc from the Santa Monica dealership that people were recommending and he was a real jerk. The price I paid was about $800 less than what my local dealership was offering and I didn't get far enough to know if they'd tack on the 15% surcharge.

I have a 2016 - E350 4Matic with 15,000 miles on it if anyone is out there reading this and is wanting to compare.

Thanks for everyone in this forum. It's very helpful.

I get the impression that a local dealer doesn't want to pee in his own cornflakes. Rhetorically speaking, how many sales include the extended warranty at time of sale? I know I was tempted due to the pro rate refund ability. They have to know about "out-of-town" dealers cutting the price. When you're sitting there at 8 pm wanting to get it all over with and the dealer suggests the extended warranty and he'll roll it into the monthly payment, I'll bet a lot of folks say yes. I wonder if Jeff and Cassandra, who probably read this thread everyday, sell the warranties to their local customers at the same prices they charge the long distance buyers....

ELW 3rd party warranty

Local dealer offers MB CPO ELW and a 3rd party ELW from VIvitas global. Latter covers a lot especially Premier warranty and is longer and cheaper (also no deductible). Anyone have experience with VIvitas ELW?
thanks

No experience but my advice is be very wary of 3rd party EWs. I was burned badly when Warranty Gold went out of business years ago.

Be very wary of them. Never heard of them. Google search doesn't bring up anything so either it's not spelled right or it's a new company with no reviews. That's a red flag. Usually 3rd party warranty companies offer better profit splits for the dealer. The problem with them is that they may limit coverage, require an inspection or have a history of denying claims that should be covered. And finally when they can't pay the claims anymore, they just go out of business and open up under a new name. Hence the reason to be wary of a new company. That's why warranties from the manufacturer are better. Avoids many of the problems mentioned earlier. You are much better off getting the one year CPO warranty and picking up two extra years from some other vendor mentioned in this forum.

Thanks. Misspelled company name. Should be Vivitas global. they have a website and BBB rating of B+.
in general I agree with both of you about being wary of 3rd party warranty companies. However there have been some good experiences with other companies noted in this sub forum.

i am concerned about coverage for convertible hard top and other items as car get older.
Appreciate all input for sure.

Angry

Just chiming in here as I'm coming up on the third anniversary of my '16 E350 wagon purchase and have decided to shop around for an extended warranty. I'm looking either for 7/75 or 7/100. I bought the car new and currently have 33,000 miles on it.

I live in the Philadelphia metro area and no dealer in this area is moving off of the MBUSA recommended price of $2950 for 7/75 and $4000 for 7/100. In fact I had one dealer who wanted my VIN, then proceeded to tell me that (quoted from email):

Just realized - there is 15% surcharge from MB if you did not purchase extended limited warranty within 30 days of your vehicle purchase... (that's why I wanted vin# from you). So this is updated pricing:
3yrs 75K miles - $3,392.50 + tax
3yrs/100K miles - $4600 + tax

From here I will honor $150 discount.

Sorry for the confusion.. Please disregard previous pricing.

I thanked him for his time but not for his lack of honesty. Dealer is MB of Princeton, NJ.

There's a couple vendors mentioned all the time in the extended warranty subforum. Some don't even charge the surcharge. I'd try getting a couple of quotes from them, the prices have been mentioned in the threads and it sounds like they will be way cheaper.

More research. Jeff Jackson in Kentucky as noted before has some of best pricing for MB EW. No sales tax or 15% penalty.
he also sells Fidelity which has great reputation and covers as much for less and for longer. Phone is 502-896-4411.

I have l found National to be a good 3 RD party and has bumper to bumper for great price. It is reputable, A+ bbb rating and cheaper. Also good at MB service and Independent ASC certified mechanics.

lastly in WA state there is a guarantor law which ties the warranty company and dealer to your VIN. If either goes out of business your EW is transferred to new company. Bottom line you are ok for period of warranty.

pays to shop in different locations. I am finding savings of up to 2k on the best policies from above EW providers even in Seattle.
good luck

Buying from auction

I am planning to buy a GLS 450 from an auto auction(I do understand the risks associated with it, somewhat). Will I be able to purchase a MB warranty if the original is not expired and also does 3rd party warranties cover vehicles bought in auctions.

Go for it. Probably GLS are not even that old to be out of factory warranty. Yes you can purchase the extended warranty until the original warranty is active. I will highly recommend to avoid 3rd party warranty. Nothing compares the ease, reliability and assurance of MB extended warranty.

As long as the car is under factory warranty, you will be able to purchase a Mercedes-Benz extended warranty. Most third-party warranties that are direct-to-consumer are very lackluster, and dealers are often reluctant to sell warranties on cars they did not sell. Endurance, etc. have very bad, and well-deserved, reputations.

Depends where it came from. I think if it was sold from an MB dealer, you might not be able to buy the extended warranty. You'd have to have the vendors mentioned earlier run the VIN just to make sure. Sometimes there's some cases where people think they can get the ELW only to find out later that it didn't qualify for some reason or another.

I did end up going with Jeff Jackson. $3200 for the 7/100 ELW, no additional taxes or surcharges. Looks like I'll be sticking with my wagon for the longer haul. for the suggestions.

So MB offers 0% APR on 12 months on the ELW, and I think currently have a 18 month 0% APR offer, with 10% down. Were any of you able to take advantage of that when purchasing from a non-local dealer, eg Jeff Jackson?

I recently bought a E400 from MB dealer with 8K/8 months left on warranty. However, I am hearing that my vehicle if not eligible for MB warranty since it was returned to the MB inventory. Had it been traded in to a non-MB dealer, it could have been eligible. Anyone knows a way around it? I would really like MB warranty.

It doesn’t matter MB or not. As long as where you get your vehicle serviced (MB or et al) honors the warranty. I bought my 2015 S550 4matic (currently at 48K miles) which eliminated me from purchasing a B warranty which is only a marketing scheme to corner the warranty/insurance market. I paid $3,900 for an extended at Endurance (recommended and reputable) and MB honors the warranty. But I’ll use an independent shop for any and all future repairs.

Hello Everyone,

I want to thank this forum for extended warranty info. I called Cassandra Castro at Mercedes of Milwaukee. She is very professional and gave me a good deal with Fidelity since my car did not qualify for MBZ ELW. It is because my car originated in Canada and I'm in Los Angeles. MBZ will not allow ELW on that type of car.

Question, as I am coming up on my factory warranty expiring soon, I am looking into getting the Extended Warranty that MB has to offer. I have a 2016 C300 with roughly 8200 miles on it. My question is, could I get the EW from any dealership, meaning whoever gives me the best price, or do I have to get the EW from the dealership I go to for service and all? I was quotes 2yr/75k for 2800ish or 3yr/75k for 3600ish.
From what I've read so far, ton of you have gotten a better price and a longer life on the EW. Any help would be beneficial to me! Thanks in advance.

In the USA you can get it from any dealer and it's honored at all MB dealers in USA.
You should be able to get much better prices than what you listed from one of the dealers listed in this forum.

I have used Jeff Jackson at Tafel motors for several extended warranty and pre-paid maintenance purchases and he is great to deal with.

8200 miles in 4 years? You sure don't drive much.
