Thanks, I'll have to look into the Exoshield...I was also told about a company/product called Ceramic Pro as well. Either way, I'm pushing this up to corporate management so it get's the attention it deserves for all of us.

Ceramic pro is just a ceramic coating, not film. Pls keep us posted

I have a 2019 G63 Edition 1 as well with 1500 miles and the windshield cracked yesterday.

Sorry to hear and see that crack BlackHawk! What a bummer man. Strong truck yet the windshield is an eggshell.
Pretty much everyone on the forum now has a windshield issue.

Looks like a stone hit the windscreen bout in the lower middle of the crack

Found this thread while researching the subject. Sigh... Had my windshield replaced with three cracks in it just to crack the new one within a month. All cracks are caused by rock chips. Never had this experience with any other car. I'm guessing that a factor could be that the heating film (option in my country, not sure about the states) which is a solid film on the new model makes the front glass sheet too thin and therefore cracks more easily. Thoughts?
Anyone without the heated windshield option have the same cracking problems?

Many cars...
I wonder if the pre-2019 G-Class are just as prone to windshield chips as the new one? Can any owners chime in on their experiences?

I've been watching G forums since 2013 and have a few friends with them - I had a 2013. Windshields have never been a problem like they are on the 2019 model. Something is wrong with the class or fitment on the new model.

Updated Aerodynamics are a huge contributor IMO.

We have a 2016 G as well and even though the screen gets quite a few chips it never cracks. Haven't had that screen replaced in 3 years compared to twice within months on the new one. Same yearly milage on them. Something is really off with the new ones. Plus the delivery time for new screens are ridiculously long suggesting that it´s quite a common problem.

I have a 2019 G63 and I had my second windshield break yesterday. After the first broken windshield was replaced I had the new one covered with Clearplex which did absolutely nothing.

There's either a torsional rigidity problem with these trucks or the quality of the glass they're using isn't up to this application. Either way I think Mercedes has an issue they need to address.

We are currently on G-Class I think #9 or 10. We have had every model since they began importing into the USA (G500, G55, G63 and G550). We have had a G in our household since 2003 and have NEVER once had to replace a windshield.

Pre-2019 G-Class is prone to lots of little rock chips due to the upright nature, but even he few Gs we had that took a bad rock hit while on the freeway at high speeds....glass never cracked!

IMO, this is THE most critical issue that I've ever read in the G forum. Brand new model windshield keep cracking, definitely WRONG and concerning our safety... MB better be reading these stories. Awful!

Agreed. I spoke to Mercedes Benz Corp today and they said this:
"This is not a known issue as there could be many external reasons for such 'crack' to occur. We would recommend talking to your local dealership about this, so they can reassure you. Thanks for your understanding. We can guarantee that if this issue reaches bigger proportions we will act accordingly."

Not a known issue but happening with such frequency that dealerships can't keep windshields in stock and they're perpetually on back order........

I contacted my dealer this morning to get an eta on a replacement windshield...

They have no idea when they're going to get one. As much as I love my G63 I'm seriously thinking of getting rid of it if this is something I'm going to have to deal with on a regular basis.

Also I just got off the phone with the sales development manager for Clearplex. They make no claims or guarantees of any kind regarding windshield damage or breakage. I currently have three small rock impacts that went completely through the Clearplex. One left a dimple, the second one left a small impact crater and spider webbed the glass in a small area and the third one in the upper passenger side corner caused the glass to crack completely across the corner. I was led to believe this is exactly the type of thing Clearplex was designed to prevent.

I was told not to bash them online but these are the facts.

Forum: What dealers are slow to get you replacement windshields? what are they saying?

I want to reach back out to MB with more details as they effectively told me there is no problem. If we know what dealers are involved MB can validate our claims perhaps.

I'm dealing with Mercedes Benz of Temecula. I called them this morning and they said Mercedes Benz can't give them an expected ETA on a windshield.

At this point I'm honestly so fed up I'm considering trading in the car.

This is my second broken windshield and I've only had the car since January of '19.

Im in Long Island and had exoshield installed at 631 coatings in Farmingdale

great place and even had them apply clear bra and ceramic pro to the G while there

exoshield has saved me already and is highly recommended as MB offers no other options

I called the parts department again at my dealer to inquire about when I may have a replacement windshield.

The only thing they can tell me is "some time in September".

I received a call from MB customer service today to inform me that I should have a windshield some time next month and that they're on back order.

The real question here should be if there isn't a problem with these cars why are the windshields on back order?

Something just isn't right here.

2019 G550
I have a 2020 G550 coming in November. All this doom and gloom is having me second guess the vehicle.

Absolutely loved my 16’ G63. Beginning to wonder if I should be looking for a 2016-2018 G63 now.

Hope MB gets this sorted out and fast
