G63 CDN price increase for 2020

Hey fellas -

I’ve had a deposit down since March of this year thinking my allocation was getting pulled in October.

Got a call today from the dealership saying I can have a January 2020 order date (delivery late March) but the msrp on the G63 is up 25k.

I have not seen this anywhere so wanted to check in here. This guy giving me the run around or is Canada getting a steep rate adjustment?

Thanks in advance!

In the US G550 went up $2500 and G63 up $5000. Looks like Canadian dealers are adjusting for market demand.

I've heard right from my dealer 147k for the 550 plus shipping, etc for 2020.

That being said, they haven't had any orders for a 550 and none in the foreseeable future - they are all G63s.

My build/order is now January for a late March/April delivery.

What dealer are you talking to that hasn't had any orders on 550s?

Just got confirmation that Mercedes Canada has indeed increased the G63 MSRP to $189,900 CAD
and the 550 to $145,900 CAD. That’s close to $23,000 increase on the G63 not factoring the additional tax.

from what I’ve been told this increase in MSRP will be happening across all countries including Germany and the US on model year 2020.

There are some differences in model 2019 and 2020 but they are only optional cosmetic options and the “trail package” which includes some mechanical changes but otherwise it’s the same vehicle at a premium.

You mean *an* increase, or the equivalent increase of $23K CDN? The US model G63 increased by $5000 USD for MY2020.

so the new base MSRP on a G63 is now $152,500 USD for MY2020?

And my understanding was an increase...it wasn’t specified what that increase was but I was told the US increase would be greater than $5,000.

Just looks like they’re just bringing the Canadian msrp in-line with prices in other markets.

CAD$189K (US$145K) is still less than the $152K US MSRP

yes, it looks that way. With the current exchange rate that does bring the price in line with the US.

My G is currently on a boat on it's way to Halifax.
I can confirm that the new MSRP is 189,900$ vs the 167,000$ it was for the 2019 MY.
I was offered a August build (2019MY) and a October (2020MY) and i chose to go with October given it would be a 2020.
Now i feel violated!! lol 22,900$ more!
I'm sitting at 225,000$ now..

yup thats true called my dealer. I paid like 23k less for my edition one that got scrapped they told me to bring it in and wait for my 20 since I already had an allocation. Sold it and now the increase in 23k poof. I’m not going to exaggerate here but a 10% increase on a car that hasn’t changed in one year is steep. Canadian dollar wise.

10% price increase in 1 model year is just taking advantage of us.
Absolutely insane!

my GM told me the same he said there is nothing different between the two models. MB just sees it as a cash grab since everyone is reselling it for crazy prices. For people that don’t flip like myself we’re all getting punished

Exactly!
Resellers and especially exporters are the ones to blame for this.
But i have to say it’s a dirty move on the part of MB Canada.

One of the great things about the G is the fact that it holds up well depreciation wise. Most owners can enjoy it for a while and move to another one at a relatively strong trade/resell value.

I’m not sure how this price increase will impact this situation.

Having said that...this price increase puts the G at more or less the same price as the US which doesn’t seem so unfair? It’s simply lining the price up with a market where generally speaking most of not all vehicles are lower in price?

the fact that the G wagon holds it’s value well is based Im guessing on production numbers availability and demand. The fact that the MSRP is going up by 23k Canadian will have an impact somewhat on sales. People like myself who had an allocation and a promise from the dealer that price might just increase by 1 or 2 thousand dollars, and now a 10% increase. Say my model is almost fully spec’d at 225k MSRP, will the value hold on 189k or on 225k. All those options that cost thousands of dollars like carbon fibre etc in my opinion will lose value when it comes to negotiate for a price to sell the vehicle. Therefore I do believe that the prices of G wagons and the re-sell might be affected. I’ve taken so many hits on cars in the past say s63 coupes that sell for 215k and losing about 17% in the first year, just hope it won’t be the same for the G now

If you look at the current pre-owned market there are currently 4 G63’s listed Canada wide on Auto Trader..all of which have several thousand kilometres and all selling for an average of $255K

Assuming a 2019 well optioned build was around $200K, that’s a $55K premium. I think it’s fair to say that buying the MY2020 at $220K and selling it a year or two later with relatively low mileage it would hold value fairly well...at least that’s my thought.

I have also taken substantial depreciation hits on luxury cars in the past...but that’s something we are all aware of when driving these cars...I think in the luxury segment the G63 fairs a lot better than most and should continue to do so even with this price increase.
