Rear Infotainment System - Any uses?????

guys, my G63 came with the rear infotainment system which was an expensive option and so far they are kind of useless... you cant go to disney plus, you cant go to paid sites where you have membership like amazon prime video or Netflix!!! What the heck do you use these for? just some web browsing or youtube? Their functions are kind of constrained... and the firewalls block everything.

Yes an iPad does the trick but trying to limit responses to this thread to those that have the rear infotainment systems on their MBs and have a use for them... found workarounds etc... yes, i have wireless internet set up in the car.

maybe someone can rewire then to get full functionality?

I don't have the RES but is there an HDMI port where you could plug in something like a Fire stick? That worked in my Odyssey--plug in the fire stick into the HDMI port and use the car's wireless to access the internet.

I've had these in my last 2 Lexus's, and have never pulled the dust covers off the screens, or unwrapped the headphones or remote. I think you can play DVDs on them to keep the rear-seated family members entertained on long journeys, so that you're not constantly yelling "don't make me stop this car!". Other than that, they're $$$ that hopefully the next owner thinks they'll need.

that’s interesting. you think that would bypass the firewalls? i already get internet on the current screens but firewalls prevent me from accessing sites like disney plus, amazon prime etc... you think the firestick would solve this issue? i do have a hdmi port on each screen... interesting idea

I'm not sure about the firewalls but it should theoretically work. A fire stick is cheap enough and comes with a power cord that can be powered by a USB port. Worth giving it a shot.

A gaggle of MB's
I bet you really "love" the non-existent instructions - right ?

It's a Android based system - the original "manufacturer" (I use that term loosely - by VOXX International out of Orlando.- OEM'd to MB by their Euro office

Since it's a Android based system - I would suspect it's "hackable" by a Android tablet geek (not Android phone geek)

VOXX has a dealer in Hempstead NY - Moving On Sounds - they are friendly people - you might call and see.

Dang shame - the MB is locked and price is so jacked-up-to-the-sky ?

yah, you are so right. instructions suck, dealer couldn't find remotes for them for 1 month etc... very odd option that no one understands.... i am first going to try the fire stick because thats the cheapest option... kids just want to watch amazon and disney plus. so odd that the screens would have all these firewalls to block many websites... whats the point! and no dvd player. if the unit can access the cars wifi, we should be able to watch and go to any sites. will like fire stick
