'21 Values Rising Fast

When the music stops you'd better be sitting down in a chair.
Not hating on G-wagons, but it seems like the only people who think they are great are the ones who can afford them. Maybe it's some kind of 1-percenter d#ck swinging contest or something. They do nothing for me, at all. But if you've got the money and are enjoying it, why not.

Yeah I never bought from Mercedes. Got it from a private dealer. But, for example, Mercedes-Benz Brampton is selling for over MSRP. They're putting on like 100 KMs and selling it as used. I guess that's how they're getting away with it?

Plus I wouldn't want to do business with any dealership that would pull off the shady stuff you're suggesting.

Yeah makes sense. Probably used that were flipped upon delivery.
But I could've sworn I saw a 2021 G63 at Mercedes Brampton that was brand new selling over MSRP... Maybe I'm seeing things. I saw a lot of G63s before I bought mine, so maybe I'm mixing things up.

Canadian Dealer's have a very sticky wicket - when the New Generation G-Wagen's were released as 19's - 90% of the Canadian customers that pre-ordered and got in queue - when they took Dealer Delivery - those same customers would "literally" drive their G from the Dealer to the Port for Export to China.
Dang shame - Canadian MB Dealer's are still recovering from that Bad Year...

The new G63 is the nicest SUV on the market but it is no longer special ! There are 760 new and used ones for sale as of today and the number is rising daily. MBUSA has sold more Gs in the US since 2019 then it did from 1976 - 2018 combined and is well on track to deliver 8000 of them to the US market this year alone!!!
Also the import numbers in Canada are triple what it was historically.
This volume does not justify exotic car pricing and the bottom will drop very soon!

Agree, with the limited availability the used ones or next to new will go fast and keep the market alive. Mine will be here any day now, Has been at port for about 2 weeks. When I get it I am keeping it and enjoying it.

I know where there is a certified pre owned 2021 G550 with 13522 miles for $207855. Titanium grey exterior with the nice leather inside. Not sure if thats a good deal or not, I haven't been following pricing much.

The monthly Carfax I received 4 weeks ago estimates my '19 G550 (12K miles) trade-in at $160K. A '21 G550 $50K ADM doesn't sound exceptional (considering car prices ard up ~11% over last year), but 2x MSRP will be waiting quite a while for a home, IMO. Will be interesting when the last '21s hit the showrooms in January.

I mean 911s hold their values strong overall and they have similar volume as the G wagen does currently: https://www.goodcarbadcar.net/porsch...sales-figures/
Yes G wagen production has increased but so has its desirability and potential user base/market. I have a 2013 and a 2020, they might look similar but in so many ways the 2020 is much much better. Lots of people who would have never gotten a pre-2019 model are lining up to get a 2019+ one.
I do think that prices will come back down to near MSRP once the 2023 model is announced (see: https://www.motor1.com/news/553463/m...g63-spy-shots/)

Prior to the pandemic, new ones on the lot were always above MSRP and there were many dealers that would let you order & wait at MSRP.
I recall that used ones were selling also close to MSRP. I think the same thing will keep on happening in the future once they announce a timeline for when the V8s will return in the G wagens. I suspect the engines will get updated to 'version' of the 4.0 that is in the new SLs which I assume has 'better' emissions or whatever the issue was.
I think the $100k + ADMs will be gone soon, there isn't enough demand to support that. Especially since the market isn't currently shooting up.

I've contacted a few dealers in the area to get on some more lists. Two of the dealers I called last week quoted likely 3 and 4 years' wait, respectively. I'm not going to hold my breath on either coming through for me, but it's free to get on lists.
I've also discovered that I need to call on a regular basis to check in--for one dealer I went in August to get on the list for a "2 year wait". Called back last week to check in and found out the salesperson died from Covid in September. Dealer didn't have me on the list, so had to get back on the list with another salesperson.
It's a mess out there.

There is no such things as a 3-4 year wait! Dealer exaggeration to sell their current overpriced inventory. My dealer put me on the list in May and just informed me I am 2nd in line for a 2023 right now to be received in late summer. The G63s at the current insane prices are just piling up in dealer lots. Just hit a staggering 800 of them today on autotrader from 600 a month ago for sale and number is still rising daily!

I also think that pricing will remain strong into 2022. These cars are just so unique. Supply since the 2019 launch has been limited (based on production in Austria) and has not meet demand. This is why pricing has risen to levels so far over MSRP. As someone mentioned earlier in this thread, there may be 7,000-8,000 of these cars sold in the USA this year. That is about 650 cars sold monthly. The current for sale inventory was 700 or 800 in the US at the moment (I think Autotrader was the source there - worth noting many dealers list inbound cars for sale that are not actually available). Regardless, at 800 cars for sale now that is only about 1 or 2 month's of supply. Again, Mercedes is not making any more G's for the US after Dec 31. And may not for what - 6 months or longer? It seems to me like there will be a severe shortage of G's come spring 2022. One would think that this would translate into even higher pricing? I'm sure this will normalize in time though - but could take a long time. I'm thinking years, not months until we see these cars back to somewhat normal (non-inflated) pricing. By then, does MB increase the MSRP to levels closer to market ? Who knows but a fun topic regardless. Happy motoring...
