First victim of the "crack down"

They are starting to crack down on modded cars out there. Today there was two police cars just hidding behind the bushes waiting to pounce on anything that looked modified at all. I took this with a long lense, since I don't want to invoke the good nature of the officer on duty.

The good news is all the ricers and lifted red neck trucks around the neighbor hood are outta there, bad news is...if I wanted to mod my car I might just suffer the same fate the guy in the orange car did.

He deserves it. I am getting sick and tired of those lifted trucks and rice rockets we have in Orange County. Why can't tastefully mod their cars. No need to put on an exhaust with a dB rating of 120 or more. Some are so loud I can hear them in the E55 with the music on and the superhcarger doing its thing.

Glad to see the CHP is finally cracking down on such ignorant people.

My question : What basis do they have for stopping someone ? Did California pass some law that allows for arbitrary stops ?

things with and without wheels
how will the cops know the difference between a legal and illegal modification? or who's teaching them?

My .02......

I'm curious as well about the reason for pulling over these cars. If it's a visible mod that can alter the car's safety, smog certification, or loud exhaust, then by law they have cause. I personaly don't care if someone wants to express themselves by modding their car unless it infringes on me. Noisy exhaust, excess harmful exhaust emissions caused by engine modifications, suspension altered to an unsafe or annoying state (car slows to a crawl at every dip and bump), then I'm bothered.

California and every other state have various laws already on the books regarding noise, bumper height, headlight height, light placement and color as well as what mods can be done to the engine (Federal too). For example, in CA any exhaust system modification that makes it louder than stock can be considered illegal and the cop doesn't even have to measure the sound level! Also, any blue or red lights in front are illegal. So, based on the two previous examples, EVERY Ricky Riceboy and his wannabe rice racecar are illegal and easy pickings for a traffic stop and maybe even a quick walkby with a drug sniffing dog. Once "Fido" picks up the scent of that roach left over from last night's sideshow, it's full on party mode for the cops to tear that POS ricer apart!

I can't wait for them to clean up our area especially that punk that comes through my neighborhood at 2AM every night. Fooking jerk has a fart cannon so loud that I can hear him coming miles away in the still of the night.

Didn't the crackdown start in Oakland a couple years ago?

Can you prove it? Show me some attendance records!

Naw, couldn't be you. I know you wouldn't be caught dead in the POS this guy drives. I looks like a late 80's early 90's Integra with every body panel modified and every light changed to purple. He's even got a 4' NHRA dragster wing on the back!

Saturday on the way up to Orange County,
saw a CHP on the side of the road with a pulled-over bright yellow TOYOTA Celica with a huge black wing. Hood was up, and looked just like that picture that Dvinn posted. The crack-down is on, but believe me the profiling is no where near having a Benz pulled over. They are definitely looking for tell-tales (huge spoilers, coffee can exhaust tips, excessive noise, limo tint, race decals, gauges on your A-pillars, etc...)

up here in nor cal, my brother got a fix-it ticket the other day in a 911/996 because his rear turn signals blinked white/clear instead of red/amber. the cop(s) followed him for about a mile before they pulled him over. so, i doubt benzes are far behind...

Guys.........

I have a lifted truck. It could outpull any G class and run over anything.....I'm sorry.

I love it to death.....I'm sorry

It's an 88' Chevy 2500 ext. cab long bed with a 6" lift and 35in tires. Not super extreme but not normal. It's also a 383 stroker with a noisy gear drive. HA HA HA HA

I have had 3 benz's and I'm a BENZ GUY at heart. There is just a little backwoods redneck in me. Also, when it snows like stupid here in NH/VT country it's the best thing. I've pulled countless numbers of awd cars and SUV's out of snow banks along the road. Almost weekly where I live.

Also, a lifted truck out here is very normal. It seems alot of you guys are posting from CA which is dry and nice in terms of weather. So I hear you guys barking. It makes sense out there.

I also have my AMG racing decal in the back window of the truck juussst to keep my family ties during winter.

By the time I drove by them, he is already sitting in the car with the hood down. Waiting for the ticket I assume.

No kidding he got pulled over. Rear turn signals must be Red or Amber.

Why are people so ignorant?

i have to say it was my fault. my car the lights themselves are red/white. one of the bulbs went out, and instead of replacing it with an amber bulb, i replaced both with clear. never had a problem before..until recently

From what I saw on the news and forums, they can issue a ticket if they think something is illegal. ie, loud exhaust ticket without any sound measurment equipment.
