2015 S550, 2015 SL550, 2015 Lamborghini Huracan
GL 450 chrome skid plate
My lease is up for my R350 and now looking to get GL450. I wanted the appearance package, but it's not available until 1/1/09. My question for the GL owners is that if the chrome skid plate on the front and rear bumpers are aftermarket accessories. I couldn't find that option when ordering my GL at the dealership. Does this mean that this is an accessory installed at the dealership?

When I ordered my '08 GL, I ordered the chrome skid plates from my dealer as an individual, added option. I would think you could find the skid plates at a cheaper price from an after market vendor. Finding someone to install them at a reasonable price could be a challenge.

Skid plates come as part of the "Appearance package" which includes the front and rear skid plates as well as 19" wheels.
You can find the skid plates separately at the dealer. Search the forum and you will find part #s.

In Europe these items are called "optical underride protection," which I think is pretty funny.
"Optical" of course means "they appear to be."

You're right. For the '08 models, the skid plates are part of the 19" Wheel Package. For the '07 models, they were included in the Appearance Package (AP). There is no such option as the AP for the '08's.

i got an 09 with appearance package already.
who told you that you have to wait till January of 09?
mine has p1 and appearance packages black/black and its awesome.
just received it early this week.

I tried to configure at the dealership, but NetStar will not allow me to choose the Appearance package. It says delayed until 1/1/09.

They are in the accessory catalog that came with my GL. The part #'s are:
Front chrome skid plate: B6 688 0165
Rear chrome skid plate w/trailer hitch: B6 688 0167
Rear chrome skid plate w/o trailer hitch: B6 688 0166
Maybe your dealer can just order them from MB and put them on for you before delivery.
