Yesterday coming back from a 20 mile trip the trucks fan was blowing full speed, and I could smell something burning, I bet it's the glow plugs staying on or something... today I took out the glow plug controller situated right in front behind the dipstick, temp is 70 degs, I started the car to make sure burning smells gone, it took 2 tries to start but the burn smell is still there, is it possible some glow plug stays on even with controller not connected??

Maybe stop by a first department and let them, show you one of those cool infrared cameras.
It will show hot spots before you find them with burnt wires.
I understand there is a Glowplug relay as well as a controller. If that is true, maybe the relay is stuck.

Do you know where's the relay located? Guess I'll start with that's it's $15 lol

Also the parts woman told me there's been 3 revisions to this part and I was thinking it should ve been a recall then .. not at mb!!
Anyway, thanks so much Alex you're an asset to this forum!

Parts are revised all the time. Sometimes due to a problem, but often not.
Yes, the original controller did seem failure prone, but not near a recall level.

On the x5 they recalled SCR tanks, that's not safety prone... front driveshaft was recalled that IS a safety issue, I guess there's no set rules
