Approved Emissions Modifications Parts

Does anyone know when the list of required parts will be available to complete the “AEM” repairs for my 2012 Mercedes GL350 in Northern California? Is this a common occurrence across the nation and secondly with the October 2022 deadline coming up to have these repairs completed is Mercedes going to be able to avoid having to compensate the owners of these vehicle due to lack of parts?

The lawsuit gives them as long as they need if parts are not available, so the deadline has no real meaning. MB made sure to put that line in the settlement.

I wonder then, if there are any owners of the 2012 GL350 who have been able to complete the AEM repair? When and what State?

Still waiting for the EGR Valve

I am located in the northern California and It's now June 14 the dealer said still no ETA for the EGR Valve for my 2010 GL350's AEM fix. The parts department told me there were over 200 backorders for this part. This is beyond frustrating...

This place is a joke.
MB should have bought all these back and sent them to the junkyard. At what point is it simply time to move on?

I agree! I wonder if Hagens and Berman are waiting for funding for their efforts in this lawsuits? I doubt it. Listen Mercedes, just buy my 2012 GL350 back at fair price and in turn I’ll buy a new GLE 350 at a fair price (not MSRP)! Pretty simple!

Yep, if nothing else they should have offered a retail trade in price towards a new MB vehicle. That would be a win-win situation for all parties.

I’m wonder if these out of stock parts for the AEM repair will ever materialize! I also question, with the recent brake recall, if the Mercedes GL350 will become the next Ford Pinto with it’s disastrous issues?

I reach out to my service advisor at Autobahn Motors in Belmont, CA about once a quarter to ask about the AEM. Each time the AEM is expected to be available about 60 days out but then it never is. In the most recent discussion, he said they have a long list of angry backlogged customers, and that they talk about the availability of the AEM every week in their staff meeting so the service advisors know how to position it.

It's such a screwup that Mercedes USA, and the law firm behind the suit, are doing nothing proactive about the situation - all they do is stoke demand for the AEM - then Mercedes USA lies about the availability of the AEM, and then the law firm sends cryptic canned messages about what will happen this fall when Mercedes fails to have the AEM available to install in our GLS - making no distinction between the AEM is theoretically available (so no additional payout from Mercedes this fall), vs in practice there are no parts available so the AEM really isn't available (and I'm not aware of any guidance from the law firm if this is the situation in the fall.) Super confusing and annoying.

Eventually this will fade into the background as does the thousands of open recalls for Takata airbags still active on some x164.

so realistically, it’s entirely possible to find a diesel x164 that has three open recalls with no defined outcome tied to it:

-AEM
-brake booster corrosion
-Takata airbag

Of which the last one could be lethal.

I am awaiting the backordered ERG valve to complete my AEM recall with Mercedes Benz of Stockton, Ca. and low and behold I see this:
Egr Valve
$840.00
Mercedes-Benz of Stockton
642140196064 E350 bluetec. R350 bluetec. Gl350 bluetec. Sedan/wagon, e350 blue tec, egr valve & related components. Ml350 bluetec. 3.0l diesel, egr valve & related

Just got off the phone with Mercedes Benz of Stockton who said this part is on live order but when you order the part it will still be on back order.
Well, it was worth a try!

The dealer called two weeks ago and said the EGR valve for my 2010 GL350 was here so I dropped it off last week. Got a message this morning I need to put on a new Drive Belt and Tensioner for $645. I was able to drive it in for the Emission Modification campaign now I can't drive it home? I was hoping to only fix the AEM recall and assess what to do with the car.

Just tell them no and to put the old parts back on the car. Upselling repairs seems to be a recurring theme for the dealerships to move their bottom lines when diesel owners go in for the emissions modificaitons.

Those monkeys told me my drive belt was shredded when they try to drive my car in for the AEM service. I told them to put everything back in and will have GEICO go tow it home. It’s time to use that emergency roadside service that I have been paying for. I replaced that drive belt once some years ago.

Yay! Back ordered parts for the “AEM” repairs have arrived in Central California and am taking my 2012 GL350 in tomorrow for the emissions modifications. Once the repair is completed what form and information do I need for the “AEM” reimbursement?

FWIW - I was contacted by MB and my backordered AEM parts are in as well. Located in Southern California. Taking it in this Friday and my service advisor said it may take up to a week to take care of everything.

My local dealer (Mercedes-Benz of Reno, NV) is still telling me they don't have the parts for the AEM fix. I've been trying to schedule this for over three months. I'm getting frustrated with them not setting aside an EGR valve and calling me when it's in stock. Anyone having luck with getting the AEM fix completed at Northern California / Sierra (Rocklin or Foothills) dealers lately? This whole thing is a debacle.

I just got a letter from the mercedes dealer that the parts are in and to schedule the AEM. it will take 16.5hrs and it includes modifying a lot of parts. I wonder if I need to uninstall my oil catch can before I turn it in for service.

Finished my GL350 in May 2022. Dealer kept it for 4 months awaiting EGR valve which leaked so back for another. Nice part was they provided loaner. I had catch can installed and they uninstalledand gave it back to me. Be sure to request it back.

Tired of fighting to have my drive belt and tensioner fixed so compromised to only pay for the parts ($340 total). They gave me a GLB250 as loaner for 4 months. They did the service for AEM recall and Brake Booster recall check. The car runs like before. The CEL has disappeared (due to particulate filter clog and Oxygen sensors) and now I can bring it for the smog test for license renewal. Now I'm back to the old issues that I had before, oil cooler is leaking (fixed twice before), I think it's a slow leak so fine with driving it just need to refill engine oil once every week. Tech suggested:

1. to replace 2 fuel filter lines $485
2. Vacuum pump is leaking oil $890

I also noticed that when accelerate, the first gear slips so I have to go really gentle which means start off really slow. Anyone know if I flush and replace the transmission fluids will fix that?

Get rid of this nightmare of a car and move on. Or do you want more aggravation and expense until it finally stops moving under it's own power? Buy a Toyota or Honda and don't look back.

Or even better, get a 450 or a 550 and use this one for parts. You’ll be blown away by how trouble free the other half lives.
