I cracked the windshield while changing wiper blades

All,

Just a word of caution so you don't do what I did and crack your windshield. STUPID ME. While trying to pull of the wiper blade, the arm snapped back down on the windshield and cracked it. Not a small chip or anything but multiple cracks requiring the replacement of the windshield. Suggest you put a big piece of foam or a pillow on the windshield when changing it.

I've decided to go through my insurance ($500 deductible) to get it replaced with an OEM Mercedes windshield.

Will keep you posted.

You are not alone. I did the same thing 2 months ago. Ended up going through my insurance for an OEM windshield. I call that set of wiper blades, $1400 wiper blades

I appreciate the tip and it sucks it happened to you. Could the OE MB windshield be weak from design? Not enough glass layers? A wiper blade should not crack a windshield.

Arm broke it which is metal as the blade was not on it.

Glass is 3 layers glass-laminate-glass - been that way for many many many years....

4. After windshield is replaced and paid by new insurance, change your deductible back to $500 (or whatever you had before).
Results: Zero ($0) out of pocket. Lower premium and better coverage (Note: do the math before you switch. Results may vary). No increase in premium due to "one accident forgiveness" from new insurance.
You do know that is what they call insurance fraud... and you just admitted to it online.

Or, you could live in Florida which has no deductible on windshields with comprehensive coverage. The MB windshields are, in fact, better made than the aftermarket ones so insist on an MB OE windshield. My insurance company replaced 5 of the aftermarket ones until I finally convinced them to spend more on the OE unit. Aftermarket windshields are not nearly as durable and crack with rock hits.

check with your insurance company and ask for a glass rider on your policy. Some states require it and some don't. Here in Ohio I had to pay extra $14on a 6 month premium to add $0 glass rider

I did the same, I believe MB is addressed on this issue and I see 2018 models come with normal style.
Does MB helps the customer in any way?

The wiper design is terrible on these cars. I had one FLY OFF on the highway, the little plastic spring got weak, the wiper was 10 months old.

I wouldn’t call that insurance fraud. It’s playing by their rules.

Insurance industry is one of the few industries that never loses money. As soon as their profits fall below their liking, they’ll just raise the premiums to maintain profitability.

Just my 2 cents.
