As per title, anyone found a top quality LED think its W16W that doesnt kick up error messages or get too hot, Im looking to upgrade my reverse lamps to increase visibility on my 360 camera when backing up?
Theres plenty of LED’s around that say error free but reviews by the public say errors have occurred. I dont think a brighter halogen bulb exists so LED or nothing?
Ive got my tailgate hatch trims off for a small dent repair this week so thought Id do the bulb upgrade at the same time.
I have used these since October 2017 on my 2013 GL450 with NO Error codes or issues (knock on wood) ... since then this manufacturer has made even higher lumens than these ... I'm tempted ... LOL ... rest assured these are BRIGHT as hell ... can't imagine what higher lumens would do to any poor souls behind these ... hehehe
Ive ordered a set of them from Amazon US so will hopefully see them end of the week, thought Id seen a few comments about error messages so lets see when they get here.
I had a go at removing a bulb yesterday, tight as hell so gave up, is there a technique to remove?

@carlosamg50 over a year since I installed them but do not recall difficulty removing the bulb ... if I recall they are just friction/compression fitted, push in pull out
Installed the bulbs this morning, really nice colour that looks fresh and modern, like it was meant to be, will have to wait until it's dark tonight to see how they help reversing but the big negative is error message when i select reverse
Does anyone have a DIY on how to change the reverse bulb with LED? I just read on other forums that some bulbs are welded to the board and not interchangeable? How did you guys change your reverse bulbs? Mine is a 2013 GL550.
None are “welded” in. Have to remove the rear hatch plastics with trim removal tools or least pry enough to reach in from the side to reach bulb. Then simple twist to remove and swap the bulb.
I will check mine but I don’t think I wired in any resistors. But if I did I used a simple 194 bulb holder and put it in line and put in the LED bulb. Takes like 2min per side to put all together.
Didn’t break any clips. If you have small hands you can just pull on the sides of the panels to get access to the GREY color bulb holder to twist it out and put back in
I think when I first did it I pulled some panels off and there is a screw hidden on the pull handle of the lift gate. My buddy from the factory will be over today and I will ask him and try to get some pics to post.
Update 9/17/2019. I attempted to install the bulb mentioned above in my 2013 GL550, last night after removing the tailgate trims and started the car but came up with an error 2 minutes into testing it. White LED Flashes 3 to 4 times upon startup. Then I shift to park. Shift to rear again and LED is bright white, but after doing this 1 more time, the dash gave me an error: 2013 GL550 LED bulb error
Hmmmm I may have installed a hidden bulb. I will get my buddy to pull my panel off if he comes over this weekend and the wife doesn’t take the GL to the condos.

Based on earlier post, I just purchased this bulb but have not installed it yet. It looks like I made a mistake........If anyone has it installed and working, please advise.
