you cant get plates for a GL63 in Iran (as far as I know) but I do know that the SL500 (550 in America) is $900,000+, apparently someone was able to get plates for a 458 Italia (only one with permanent plates in Iran) for around 3.5 million dollars. Same situation in China, everything is 2 times or more than what we pay in North America.

Thanks SO. I am certain there would be no delays in production. I was concerned about them sitting at VPC for a month before getting released. I hope you are correct and hopefully we can take delivery in 1st 2 weeks of August. I am glad your dealer decided to add the rear airbags. I have no idea where those airbags are but will wait to find out. You have indeed been waiting longer than me. Hopefully not too long.
Tom has been waiting for a while too and he has until October before he gets his.
I spent all my patience with the GL63 and was thus happy when my S550 order was allocated within 2 weeks of placing the order. S550 is scheduled for Sept 3rd decade.

Does anyone have any updates for the 2014 GL63 July production. Few of us are in the 3rd decade and I would love to know if they are on or ahead of schedule. Thanks

as far as I can see, there is no scheduled production in July for MY 2014 GL63.
Production is so far scheduled for August......

I find it incredible that 809 posts after my first one here there are still so few people with GL63's. Given margins seems like a strange business decision for MB not to make more. Are they trying to follow Ferrari's model of make one fewer car than the market demands?

FWIW, I just learned that when MB released 2014 pricing for the GL, including 63 (118+USD), the release date was announced as July

Exactly. That's why it doesn't make sense to not have any GL63 scheduled for US production in July. I cannot get through to my sales associate otherwise I would have asked him to check my PO. Maybe next week I can find out more info.

With a PO# - a NetStar check takes 3 minutes in the VII screen.
About 2nd day from start of production VIN# is assigned - completed production next stage is "release to VPC - VPC time can range from 3 days to recent high of 2 weeks - depending on the work needed to be completed at VPC - for ML/GL Vance is the only VPC shipping label is printed at the end of VPC process - after label is printed the VPC will show release to carrier - carrier may take 2-3 days to consolidate a load - total carrier time to delivery to your dealer is best estimated by your dealer from their experience with shipping from Vance based on your area.
There is no mystery here at all - although in some dealerships your particular "salesperson" may not have NetStar access - in that case those salesperson's have to turn to their management.

Thanks Fab,
For companies that plan macro 5-10 years out, do FAR less than acceptable micro visibility. My process started VERY early at a large dealer and until it arrived at the dealership, even the NetStar was subpar.
On the other hand, my Porsche experience was noticeably better but, far from good. Far from standards we've grown accustom to with other industries.
I liken to the audio/electronics in the cars vs how fast the market evolves.
It is what it is.... can't change it and complaining is typically dismissed.

Congrats on finally picking up your GL63. Sorry you don't get to drive it for a few weeks after waiting all of this time. Looking forward to your impressions when you do.
Separately, here is the first "used" GL63 that I have seen for sale in the US. Priced at $144.9k - which is a little higher than the two G63s (with slightly higher mileage) that the same dealer also has for sale. Looks to me like it is priced for export.

I agree it's probably for export.
SO: Do you have any production updates for your GL63? Mine is still scheduled for 7/28. No VIN yet.

Gl63's have been popping up on ebay for quite a while now, nothing new.

Sam:
As of today, I am scheduled for completion of production on 8/1. I also do not have a VIN yet. I assume your July 28th date is production completion date as well. You still have me by a couple of days. Dealer does not see any delay at this point. Hope that is right! Keep me posted if you get any updates.
Cookstar:
Thanks for flagging that - I never check Ebay. That one listed on ebay for $150k is also export ready . . .
Kind regards

It took about 10-12 days. It sat in factory VPC for over a week before being released to carrier. Once released, it showed up in dealer inventory and then another 3-4 days to arrive. Dealer needed about 1 day to PDI.
Remember, these are US built cars. 6 weeks sounds about right if coming from Europe.
Very little visibility in this process. Dealer seemed to think they wait for enough SUV's to fill a truck to South Florida. Not many GL's getting built/released so, took longer to fill it up.
I live in a saturated Mercedes and other luxury car market. I've only seen 1 GL550 and 3-5 GL450's around town. No GL350's at all.
There's another GL63 in town (early delivery) but, that went north for the summer probably to return this fall. I've seen a few new ML63's around town over the last 1-2 years and quite a few ML550's.

She's now getting a computer massage at RENNtech and extreme exterior buff and polish by Gtechniq along with matching front window tint. Working on getting a 9500ci installed all while out of town.
Hopefully she's good to go when I take the first spin next week!
