bro that part is the fix for the problem its a diaphragm what normally what happen in the winter months it get stuck close and prevent it from opening to vent if you have a 2015 w205 its as that set up on the line parts on ebay would solve the problem.

No it is not covered under powertrain warranty. My other warranty expired last year and I'm kicking myself for not going in for a diag. I pulled this code and had them Diag it for $150 CAD. They want $1700 CAD to do the repair and $750 CAD for the part. Though its a complete non issue, since the replacement assembly has deleted this "breather valve" entirely. Its just a plastic cap on the new part. I told them to pound sand and i'll do it myself. They did find something else wrong that was covered under warranty though.

I drive a 2017 GLC300 with 61,000km.

The powertrain warranty DOES NOT cover this. This part is considered part of the emissions system and NOT the engine block. If your friends car may be covered under the "manufacturer" warranty since it is a year newer, tell them to take it to Mercedes and just pay the diagnostic fee. They will tell you if its covered under warranty or not. Just make sure they don't go ahead with any work until speaking to your friend.

P052E - Heavy Rain

Last week I had to drive through heavy rain for a couple hours. My check engine light came on it was again the code P052E. Twelve months ago, under warranty they replaced my crankcase breather valve... A huge disappointment. If this needs fixed every twelve months I'm getting rid of this SUV.

I tried to clear the code several times with no effect. After a couple days, the check engine light went out. I wonder if it will come back or if this was the result of water getting in somewhere to cause a sensor malfunction...

Hi Srenaud,
Very interesting. my 2017 GLC300 w/120Kkm has P052e codes at every hour driving.

Which valve part is deleted on the updated part? 1? or 2?
I might make my current part modified.

So what is that, just a nipple/tube joining the two sections together? Are you doing this installation yourself?

My indicator light is going on and off intermittently. This is happening after having the dealer fix this issue 14 months ago. Same code.

Yes, that is now just a joint and screw hole. and I will try to install myself.
It might be challenging thing because the engine mount need to be removed, but I usually do many repair jobs such as control arms, spark plugs, brakes rotors, ATF pan etc.

My 2017 100k miles vehicle, used to get P052e code on average every 50km driving.
then I added a cup of break cleaner, WD40 etc into the PCV valve hole.
(to access the PCV and to open the cap, I needed to detach battery plus power, remove ECU and slide the intercooler)

after 3 times of doing this, still I am getting P052e code on average 500km driving now.
Erasing the code is hassle. so I will replace this part if things get worse in a few months.

The new part has omitted the diaphragm all together. Im wondering is it possible to take out the existing diaphragm by inserting a hard plastic tube and hose clamps on both ends to make the line uninterrupted only without the diaphragm?

Improved part probably has new designs in the rectangular box. Removing the diaphragm with the old part will make another problem I guess.

I replaced the intake assembly. Took many hours.

You need some experience and tools to do this. Also small ratchet, various length extensions, mirror, magnet etc..

To remove the engine mount braket, I needed to support the oil pan, then lift 1 cm after remove bolts.

braket 4 bolts removed. Remove lower 2 bolts and 1 a/c bolt from under

Oil seperator is removed

Good post.
Make sure you use ALL NEW gaskets when re-assembling. Old gaskets sometimes get crunched or otherwise don't seal correctly, and after all that work it's a shame to go back in there just to replace a leaky seal.

Good point. check and compare the old and new parts, always.

Learning a lot... my 2017 GLC 300 4matic (36k miles) check engine light came on yesterday, Sept 7th.. 2021 .. 2 1/2 months after warranty expired .. Fault code is P052E71 . does anyone know: 1) how long can one postpone replacing the valve assembly.., 2) if I wait to replace, what type of problems can occur? and 3) what is the significance of the "71" after the P052E (or where I can find the list of GLC fault codes).

Any info/guidance is appreciated.

(1.2)
I drove 22,000 km after the first p052e at 110,000km. I reset the code more than 30 times.
No noticeable problem to me.

I saw the higher crankcase pressure might make oil pan oil leak. Mine was okay.

3) 71 or other 2 numbers look no meaning. Only P052e is important I guess.

Which service did you do? The dealer inspected this?

Perhaps one could save a couple hundred dollars taking it to an independent garage if that is your thing.

It's an all-day repair. It requires the following procedures: remove air filter housing, remove tubing to intake line, remove engine control unit and bracket, remove intercooler from bracket, remove intercooler bracket, disconnect battery, remove belly pans, remove belt, remove AC compressor from block, support engine with hoist, remove left engine mount and bracket, and finally replace intake line with integrated vent valve....then put it all back together and clear all faults.

My service was done in December 2018 with 32,400 miles (roughly 50,000 kilometers) and I was told that by then the part had been revised.
I did the service B in the dealership on June which is still under CA federal warranty, but now the engine light is on because of the PCV valve. But dealer didn’t check the PCV for me when they did service B for me. Is this a part of Service B?

It's not part of Service B. Service B is nothing but preventative maintenance items and checks. They will not tear your engine apart to check the breather valve during the Service B. Just hope that you have the revised part when they built your car (I don't know your model year). If not, just always have $1700 sitting in savings, waiting for this problem if you are out of warranty.

This was one of the few design flaws (every car has them) on the earlier GLC models along with the squealing brake problem. Both of these problems have been resolved with parts updates/redesigns.

2018 C300 Cabriolet
Wow! I purchased my 2018 C300 Cabriolet off lease back in July 2021. I got a really good deal on it and I love it. The car literally turned 50k miles and almost instantly that code appeared. (P052E). I ma an experienced mechanic unfortunately never worked on Mercedes in my last 40 years. I have the tools and the know how, but the only concern I have is did Mercedes in it's infinite wisdom atleast make a running change and repair this defect? Or will I be looking at doing this again in another 50k?
Thanks for the great info here guys and gals!

My part for GLC must be improved 2~3 times based on the replacement part number history.

Hope it lasts longer between the code occupancy.

Brutal...2016 GLC300 P052E

Hello Mercedes 2016 GLC300 owners...you would think Mercedes would do something about this issue because of it happening in so many models consistently!!!
Quote we received at Mercedes dealer in Saskatchewan, CANADA is $950 for the part and $750 for labour.
Wish I was a lawyer and CLASS ACTION them on this!!!
Faulty engineering that has caused us to need to repair our third one (original, warranty replacement and now out of our own pocket...SAME ISSUE!!!)
Sorry needed, to "CRANKCASE VENT"!!!
And for fun, -40C and happens when my wife is driving and she thinks blown engine because of the smoke coming out of the exhaust!!!
Such a great make and model of Mercedes but with an issue as prevalent as this that MERCEDES CANADA should be doing something other than dealer charging us $1,700CDN!!!
