Battery

Hi, I'm away on a business trip and I received a battery message from my GLC63.
Battery Charge Level Critical, can I make it till Saturday and it will start?
Car is in New Jersey and temperature is cold out.
Does anyone has experience with it?

Just recently changed my old for a new battery because I let it sit for over a week unused. Merc tried to salvage the old battery as it was only 2yrs old but to avail.

If your car lives at your homes garage then you should definitely use a trickle charger of some sort if you constantly leave it for prolonged periods of time.

There are so many to choose from and I’ve no recent experience with them. There actually is a post on this topic here somewhere with some pretty good advice mate.

Why not remote start it for 5 minutes to help it recover some.

I was able to start the car "normal". While driving I got the message to stop driving and not to switch off the car. being on the highway I continued driving, didn't noticed any problems.
After being home, I let the car sit and running, after, all messages disappeared.
Yes, I couldn't remote start the car -remote start disabled - message on the app.

To help lower the chance of this happening next time, use the standby mode to help prolong the battery's life (the main thing it does is cutting communication with MB's servers entirely used for Mercedes Me) when the vehicle isn't driven for a while. I wouldn't recommend using this mode if vehicle is parked outside due to the anti-theft also being deactivated but if vehicle is garaged then use it.
As mentioned as well, trickle charger is a great option too.

Good to know.

How do you put it in stand by mode?
I noticed that if I use media to play music and don't close my phone's music app after returning home, the battery continues to get drained. Weird

I used Standby Mode once in a while while my car is not driven so often. I noticed that if I wait too long and the battery is low in charge, a message comes up that says the battery charge is not sufficient to use Standby Mode which is fair.

Couple weeks ago I got CTEK 5.0 Trickle Charger based on all the reviews and discussions here that it is the best and it worked great since after charging the battery under AGM, Recondition Mode charging it for couple days; it got fully charged and was able to place my 2018 W213 in standby Mode and I got the famous display message estimating the duration the car can stay parked for 28 weeks !!.

So I drove the car earlier this week; and tried to place it back to Standby Mode; but now it is greyed out and the check box can't be select, while a message says "System Inoperative" Any idea what "system inoperative" means for Standby Mode? Why last week it was working right after it was charged and now it is "inoperative" whatever that mean. Is there a fuse that blew, or a reset needed somewhere? Nothing about "Standby Mode System Inoperative" exists in the Manual or online.

Have not heard of this before.
CTEK is an excellent unit. With AGM batteries I would avoid recondition mode, just use AGM and give it an overnight charge. From memory the manual states only recondition for lead acid older tyre batteries.
Recharge you battery agin, overnight on AGM, it might correct issue, or battery may be starting to fail under load.

Charged it overnight under AGM Mode, without Reconditioning mode which i only used couple times. CTEK Shows green light step 7 as fully charged and engine data shows 12.4 V. Tried Standby Mode while it is still connected to the charger, and it still says "System Inoperative". unplugged the charger and tried it again i get the same message.

Any idea what could be the issue? and If the battery is shot, would it be covered under warranty?

Local auto electrician could do a load test on battery, will need to know battery specs, like AGM, RC 80 ?, CCC 120 ?, 80Ah, etc. They will input data into their tester and it will generate a print out with condition.
Battery warranty depends on Region, there is a date stamp usually on one post top, like 18 to indicate 2018, or 08/18 for Aug 2018. Warranty usually 3 years, but might be 5 years if car warranty 5 years. Usually complete swap, free, no pro rata payment.
Sometimes when locking car, double tap lock on remote and you will turn off additional circuits that have a trickle drain. You have to use remote to unlock as you disable the touch lock/unlock when you do this - all resets on unlock.
Hope this helps.
Let us know how you go.

you could also dis-connect the battery for 5 seconds or so and re-connect which forces complete reboot of software and memory-We used to refer to this as a "Raytheon" reset

Am I going to loose all memory settings and get Mira’s of errors by disconnecting the battery? If so; I have a CTEK 5.0 battery charger, do I keep it plugged not to loose my settings? How do I disconnect the battery properly OR how do I resync everything?
