Who has changed tires? Proper way to jack without damage?

I've damaged all my cars by jacking. How do I avoid damage?

I used the jack, but also backed it up with jack stands while on the side of the road. It's not a great jack, and seems very unstable when extended.

definitely read the owners manual, I didn't and it cost me a $1,500 repair... stripped the lug nut bolt holes because I didn't use the supplied tire changing lug nut bolts.

You can also call roadside assistance if not sure what to do, or have them swap out tire, assuming you have the time.

If you're changing tires in your garage, like for a seasonal tire swap, a racing jack with a Mercedes-specific adapter for the jacking pad is the way to go. A jack with a sufficiently wide saddle can be used without an adapter, but it's best to use an adapter if you're unsure or inexperienced. The adapter slips into your car's jacking point creating a flat lifting surface for a traditional jack saddle.

excellent. Thank you! It's for seasonal tire changes not using the OEM jack.

Jacking for wheel changes

A floor jack is essential. On mine I find just a hunk of 2x4 in the saddle works well when positioned under the jacking points.

I also got this to use with my jack in lieu of conventional jack stands: https://agatools.com/products/jack-rod-stand

When the new wheel is on, snug the bolts only while raised, then do the finally torquing after lowering when the weight is back on the wheel.

I've used these pucks on two jacks to raise my GLE for tire changes, flats (dammit!) and oil changes. These work great and fit right into the recesses.

Not sure what wheels you have, but one issue I’ve had on my 22” AMG wheels is the cover of the lug nuts being ‘seized’ onto the wheel itself. Not sure if it’s road salt, brake dust, or something else, but the dealer has had to break a couple to get them off, and third-party wheel shop that I trust has also had issues.

FYI to all. You do not need the rubber insert that hotrodw has pictured (this is only needed if your jack head is not big enough to expend over both lifting point tabs. Otherwise, lifting from the two tabs is how the dealership does it. I have a 2 post lift and have been lifting from these tabs (same as a dealership) without an issue.

**** it. I'll just use the 2x4 piece. This **** looks so fragile and I feel like it will get crushed.

I use a 2x4 as shown above. It will get crushed eventually, but then you just put in a new piece.

Carmakers need to wake up and smell the coffee. Particularly German car makers who's customers are more intelligent than most and have the capacity to DIY. For such an expensive vehicle please consider steel parts. Keep your customer's perspective in mind.

That piece looks and feels like Glass Reinforced Plastic, which is both stronger and lighter than steel, pound for pound.

I'm OK with lighter and stronger.
Same with High Strength Steel and bonding, where German carmakers lead the way.

Looks can be deceiving. You can certainly damage that plastic if you do something wrong, but if you're applying jacking force evenly, you won't crush it. The picture below is one of our GLC's jacking pads. By my count I've lifted the car at least 14 times at each corner myself using just the standard jack saddles, and you can see they're holding up fine.

Another question here is how to lift the GLE and put it on jack stands on all for corners? ANYONE? Sooner or later I need to figure this out when I will be doing my own oil changes as I won't be able to use my oil extractor pump anymore.

LMFAO that's why it's known colloquially as a widow maker jack!

I will just use a hockey puck to jack each corner to change the wheels/tires.
