How to check version of your Navigation? What is the latest? 3 years free updates?
Hi
Purchased a NEW 2016 GLE350 few weeks back, I think it was a good deal for a car that was sitting on the lot for several months, anyways.....few questions:
1. How to check for version of Navigation? I am sure dealer did not update before the delivery
2. What is the current (latest one) how often is it released? I am sure dealer will not automatically notify anyone
3. Is the hidden engineering mode still available on GLE? by holding 3 buttons hangup, #1 & # ?
Thank you all in advance for any light on these questions.

Sure... call your dealer Service Adviser ... based on VIN# ask for when the latest Noav update was released ..SA will need to check with Service Tech... update is released "baout" every 6 months... 1 1/2-2hr download.. dealers HATE it..

This is one of those things they HOPE you don't know about, and therefore never ask. I guarantee you they won't ever bring it up if you don't. Could you imagine the line of cars backed up out the door of their service bays waiting for updates?
What they should do is check for ALL software updates and download them during regularly scheduled service appointments. There are a whole lot more software updates than just NAV. E.g. Android Auto, Apple CarPlay, etc.

Wish it was easy for the owner to check themselves. Then they would know when to ask as well as they would be able to verify that an upgrade was performed when requested.

I've purchased my GLE350 1/25/17 and checked my map version and it seems like newest version.
You can check the version from Nav/map mode.
Select Options (at bottom left)
Select Map Contents
Select Map Versions at bottom.

I just got back from the dealer and my SA told me that my V5.0 is the newest version. I guess I am taking my car to another dealer going forward.

Haven't looked to see what version mine is, but I know it isn't the latest because the map gave me a message that the road I was driving on was not found on the map. It was a section of road that was completed and opened about 8-10 months ago.

Anyone who has an outdated map database should definitely get it updated. However, realize that these maps are outdated immediately after they're released. New maps are released once a year at most. There are new roads being constructed somewhere EVERY DAY OF THE WEEK. This is why you'll still see inaccuracies even with the latest map database. If you want the most current maps, use Google Maps. You can use it via Android Auto or Apple Play, or via your cellphone directly. Whenever I'm in doubt as to the accuracy of the in-car Nav, that's what I do.

It was kind of funny when it happened, I had just exited the newest section of 485 and jumped on a side road that was built around the same time and the maps just popped up an error message, something along the lines of......the current road is unknown. The message lasted about a mile then the navigation picked up the road and kept on with the directions.

Nav Database Update
Just took my car in for the engine control unit software update recall. While there, I had them update the Nav database as well. The latest map version is now: 2017/2018 (V8.0) N. AMERICA.

If your Command doesn't accept disk updates then the dealer has to do it over their connection with Germany. Dealer had me get a loaner since it can take an hour or all day depending on the connection. My 10K service and up date was finished in 3 hrshrs. The latest is v11 2018/19.
By the way I didn't get any type of notification, I had to ask.
At this point it doesn't look like there was any operational changes just normal location changes.

Kind of funny that on the Mercedes website it explicitly states that MBUSA will reach out to customers to notify them when new versions of the maps are available during the 3 year free upgrade program.
It made me laugh when I read that knowing that my version is out of date and I have never been contacted by MBUSA.
