Brake Squeal on GLE63S
A year ago, I purchased a new 2019 GLE 63S Coupe. Within weeks of delivery, the brakes started squealing.
My braking style is to brake early with more pressure, then feather the brakes as I near the stop, using light pressure to roll to a soft stop. Under this light pressure, the brakes are squealing. And it’s not just one wheel. I can have 3 wheels squealing at the same time.
I have had it back to the MB dealership and on three different occasions they have replaced both front and rear pads. And the brake squeal continues! 😫🤬
Dealership appears to be running out of answers. But I refuse to live with squealing brakes on a $130K vehicle that is a year old.
Suggestions?

Mine squeal in the cold...like once the temp hits -20C ...I have replaced my rears..I must listen closer to determine if it's coming from front / rears or both..I would just try a different pad if it bothers that much..and ensure the pads are/were installed with proper paste...these brakes do sometime squeal

I haven’t paid a dime, so that’s a good thing. I’m scheduled to take it back in three weeks from now and they will “document” the issue and “open a case,” whatever that means. This will be the 4th time I’ve had them address this issue in the past year. What else could they need to document?
Wish me luck!

Same here
I have 36k on my 18 and it’s done the exact same since about 5k miles. 3 different dealers all said this is typical for Brembo’s. Any time they would do any brake work it would be fine for a few days and then the noise would come back. I’ve noticed that when you clean the wheels and brake assembly it would be fine for a day then come back as well. Last summer I did a test and washed them every day for a week and the noise was gone. Skip a day and it comes back. What unfortunate is that this is my first Benz and this experience will make me think twice before buying another. No issues on my previous X5M & Cayenne Turbo.

Not an issue to worry about. As others say, cold temperatures cause squealing under braking, and a lot of performance cars with performance brakes have it. Porsche even made a video explaining brake squeal so people would stop worrying about it. When wet, the brakes would squeal a bit too. Warmer and dryer situations would help "fix" this issue from my own observations.

I find cleaning helps... and by that I mean brake dust... don't do this right after being driven, i only do it in the mornings when im cleaning the car, run the hose over and aorund the calipers and try get as much brake dust out as you can... 30 seconds or until the brake dust stops running out in the water... seems to help....

I asked because the rear pads go very fast due to all the safety braking and lane safety features. Here's a discussion - https://mbworld.org/forums/gle63-gle...s-already.html

I have a 19 with 5000 miles, squeals like a pig at light brake pressure rolling stops
are there any aftermarket pads that will help the issue? It seems going dealer route is futile.

2019 AMG GLE 63S
I'm late to this discussion, and just got my '19 GLE63S a couple weeks ago. I had a little uneven brake pad contact with the rotors from what I could see on the rotors. I got to a safe place and did a "bedding" of the brakes and they have all 4 corners been great now. No noise and the rotors seem to show the pads are contacting flat across them.
Have you been bedding in your brakes after the pads and/or rotors are replaced? If not, you should try.

Hello- Thank goodness that I saw your post. It is a huge relief to hear somebody with the same problem and same point of view as me- regarding - not driving a squeeking brake vehicle. I am experiencing the same thing with my brand new 2021 GLE 63S - which I have 900 miles on.... The brake squeek started at 500 miles and I brought it back to the dealer and they kept it for 7 days and said there was some rust on the brakes that they removed with some sort of process- which I think was stopping very abruptly. Now- 1 1/2 weeks later the squeel starts again and I'm very upset. I paid $120k for this vehicle and I'm getting squeeling from the service department and even the sales department that this is an acceptable part of owning a "High performance vehicle" with fancy brakes... There is no f'ing way that I'm driving any vehicle that squeels like a pig when I drive it..... much less a $122k vehicle. I'm not sure about you - but I'm driving all over the place- in stop and go traffic in Manhattan and I'm not hearing any vehicles- much less high end vehicles with squeeking brakes. I do hear city busses squeeking and very old and crappy cars with squeeking brakes. I am investigating the Lemon Law and regarding this issue. Which, by the way, I don't want to invoke- because other than the squeeking brakes - I love this vehicle. But- I just bought a place in Westhampton Beach - and I'm wondering if Mercedes Benz wants me squeeling throughout Westhampton beach all summer? In any event- the Lemon Law is invoked when the dealership cannot fix the problem within 30 days of service .... it's not a done deal- but please. I got this vehicle because - I bought a GLE450 with the new air suspension and - that- "sucked" - I felt like the vehicle was going to bounce off the road - it was like driving a U-haul truck - so- I traded in the 2 month old vehicle that I bought for $83k and they only paid me $63k for that vehicle. But- I thought that was my own fault- because every time I brought that vehicle in for a test- they said (4 times) that it was the normal performance.

Lemon Law
This is the second Lemon that I recently bought from Brooklyn Mercedes. I lost $30k with my return on that crappy vehicle.

Perhaps you should have sued before instead of voluntarily taking a $30k loss?

I've encountered the same issue in my 2021 GLE 63S and in other vehicles before that. What I learned and have done to alleviate break squeal is to "break in" the brakes by coming to a complete very fast stop a few times in a row while out on a drive from a speed of at least 60 mph. Obviously, I do this when there are no vehicles behind me. They say this process gets the breaks very hot and breaks them in. I was told to do this after the car had at least 300 miles on it and also whenever brake pads are changed. It has worked for me. I learned this on the bimmerpost forum which has much more activity than this forum. Even though it's BMW centric of course, I've learned a lot about cars on that forum. I've owned a few BMWs and a few Mercedes S sedans prior to getting into my current GLE. Hope this helps...

Well - the Lemon Law in NY is not a slam dunk. The rules are (1) if the dealership has possession of the vehicle for 30 days while attempting to repair the problem and after rhat time if they say it cannot be repaired and (2) the defective condition is a safety concern or (b) if it’s an issue - that if a person knew existed at the time of purchase - the person would not have made the purchase. (I don’t know many people that would agree to buy a vehicle that had Squeeky brakes - if they were told the vehicle would have chronic squeaking brakes throughout the life of the vehicle...... do you?) I’m not certain that this is a basis for the Lemon Law return of the vehicle - however - (1) I am a Trial Lawyer and I know that I will not be driving a squeaking brake vehicle around town - (2) I will be suing Mercedes based on the Lemon Law - to return my $122k to me.

I am always surprised when people buy performance products, and then complain that the performance products (brakes in this case) do exactly as designed.
High performance brakes are different than grocery-getter brakes. They will squeak when stopping if you don't treat them like they deserve, which is proper bedding in as @GlennC posted.
The operator has a role to play in the operation of the vehicle. "Officer I didn't know my car would go faster than the speed limit. I'll sue M-B."
See if you can find some grocery-getter pads, but if you do, don't use the other capabilities of your car. It will be unsafe.
If you try suing the Dealer of M-B for not changing to unsafe and non-approved parts, I hope M-B prevails. I don't want frivolous lawsuits adding to the cost of my next car.
Or you could just treat your equipment correctly. Now that you know how to take care of your car, good luck.

Reminds me of the beginning of the movie Ford vs Ferrari when the rich guy who drives a sports car like a grandma that causes all his problems.
my GLE brakes only squeal at the near end of life.
