front lower control arm rear bushing R&R questions
So I saw a video of someone replacing a rear bushing on an R-class (W251) and it bolted to the control arm, ours look similar but look like they are maybe pressed onto the control arm. Just wondering if anyone has replaced just the Rear bushing on the Lower control arms? my front bushing doesn't look bad, no cracks or anything, so I was hoping just to do the rears, but if I have to remove the Control arm and press it, Maybe I should just replace the whole control arm, I know it is more expensive, but I don't currently have a press so I would either have to take it to a shop or go buy a tabletop press.
bushing install tool and press you can get for 140$,its worth it and you will use it for many years,easy way to get the bushing out iif its seized s by cutting it with a saw just make sure not cut past the body of the bushing,aluminum is pretty soft
For reference this is the bushing I am referring too. So it does seem these are pressed on. I will probably return them when they arrive and just purchase the complete control arms.
you think lemforder is made in germany? most likely not
Yeah, I know. I bought some Lemforder rear control arms for my GLK a year or so back. I think they came from Turkey.
About 15 years ago I was involved in sourcing some airplane parts from China. What I found was, if you hand them a part and say "make this" they will make it for about 10% of the cost you would pay for the same part here, and it would be cheap junk. If you told them exactly how you wanted it made, and told them you were going to do the QA yourself, they would do it for about 20% of the cost to do it here, and the quality would be very good. (Ours were excellent). So, a Lemforder part made in China might be of high quality, but the same part with the "Febest" label (a cross between "Febi" and "best"?) is not something I'd want on my car unless there was no other alternative.
Okay, no Engrish jokes..... but at the end of the day paying once for a quality part is sure a whole heck of a lot better than paying twice to replace a piece of crap from China
