E320 vs. BMW X5 4.4i

My friend just picked up a 2003 X5 4.4i and he wanted to race me as he thought he would blow me out of the water. Let me say I was a bit intimidated myself. BTW I was driving a 1998 E320.

Anyways, we did about 6 runs from a stop. 4 out of the 6 times he got a better start than me. I don't know, for some of the runs I swear I punched it the same time he did. It could be either my sluggish throttle response or the great amount of torque the X5 has down low. From a stop, the X5 is quite quick. He pulled almost 3 car lengths on me once. It was only when I shifted into 3rd gear I would slowly start pulling on him.

The last 2 runs I was determined to start the same time he did. We launched at exactly the same time. He pulled by a hair but we were pretty much neck and neck through my 1st and 2nd gear. It was only when my car shifted into 3rd gear, I would slowly start pulling.

I think in most situations, he was faster from 0-60. Given more distance, i would have pulled ahead. It was pretty fun!

The 4.4's pack some punch with 315 hp. Nice run, it's all for fun.

290hp. The 2004's have the 325hp engine (it's a 4.5L later).

"The challenge: A vehicle that can deliver thrilling performance on all roads. From smooth highways to bone-rattling byways. The answer: The BMW X5 4.4i SAV®, with a 315-hp V-8 engine married to xDrive, all-wheel-drive system. Stunning responsiveness and handling at every on-ramp and switchback. And when roads turn nasty, the X5 starts having fun, with its extra ground clearance and surefooted grip. In short, the X5 4.4i gives you more roads to love and more ways to love them."

315 or 325hp. Same thing. Either way though, that's on the 2004's and newer.
It's a different engine.. N62 (now) versus M62 (old) (if i got my codes correct)

C230K, downgrade :(
For an SUV thats a pretty nice looking engine there, although the ML55 still looks better..but they have the top two looking SUV/TRUCK engines.
