SL55 vs Shelby500

On my way home today, I am minding my own business sitting at the light in the left hand turn lane heading onto the freeway....when a GT 500 pulls into the right lane of the two turn lanes. There are a couple of 20 something guys in the car. I can see them looking over at the SL55 and laughing, but I just ignore them.

The light changes and we begin to turn, when I hear him light up his tires, obviously going for it. So, I figured that this boy need a spanking........and a spanking he got! By the time we merged onto the freeway, I was well into triple digits and he was a dot in the mirror.

As there was some traffic, I backed off to equal the traffic's speed. I can see him ernestly trying to race through traffic, cutting off cars, and simply being reckless. As my exit approaches, I move off the freeway and as he goes by, he flips me the middle finger salute. What the hell was that about? He got smoked, almost causes 10 accidents and flips me off!! They were probably late for the gay bar!

They gave you the finger huh? Yeah because they never thought they weren't gonna loose. I'm sure they laughed in the beginning but when you left them behind im sure they were.... .I'm sure they'll think twice when they pull next to an SL55 again

Well, that was boring.......a bunch of cars....that really can handle.......going in a straight line....yawn.

It seems like the current fad of inability to actually 'drive' (ie. anything other than putting one's foot down in a straight line), has grown to include the mid east. When are people going to realize that these cars are best experienced on a windy road or a road course.

I love the X 1/9. I won several SCCA titles with my old X 1/9...on road courses. I would humiliate Porsches, Ferrari's, Vettes, etc on windy roads....with a 70hp car. That is what that car is made for.

GT500 should have around the same HP and weight...but with a jack@ss who can't row his own gears correctly...bye bye Shelby!

Man, I got the finger today while in a parking lot! I wasn't even doing anything but waiting for the kid to pull out, and his passenger gives me two of them!

I'm not in any way trying to compare the SL55 to the GT500, but I'm suprised you beat him so badly. Like someone else said, it was probably his inexperience with a manual tranny.

Those GT500's can be modded very easily and cheaply to run super fast. There's a mustang out there that was tuned by evolution performance and it just has basic upgrades like ecu, pullies, exhaust, intake, and N2O and they got it to run below 10 seconds on the 1/4 mile. But then again, there are plenty of 9 second 'Stangs out their anyway...

the GT500's only need 1 pulley change... and its actually alot easier than our crank pulley swaps.

so.. be careful when you keep on picking on these cars..

they are heavy 3800lbs+ on a good day.

they run high 12's to mid 12's and trap about 112 to 113 on pretty much evey car mag.

those numbers are very close to stock 55's. But stock vs stock the AMG due to easier launch, will probably win. A good driver on the GT500 will make it a good even race.

since your SL is modded, I can see pulling away without problems.

I have yet to run one, but I have seen a few around. Its a matter of time.

GT500 are not cheap.. sticker says 40k+ but i have read about crazy dealer mark ups.. so I would not be surprised someone paying $50k for stang.

I was interested in one and went to a dealer (Scarsdale Ford). They showed me two of their top of the line mustangs. One was the Saleen Extreme supercharged 'stang with 550hp. It was pretty cool, but sticker was $70,000 Lol...so obviously, that was a waste of time. When he showed me the GT500 he said that the sticker was in the 40's but the loaded ones are marked up to around $70,000. Plus, there is a waiting list and I'd be lucky to get it in the fall of 2008 if I ordered one now. No thanks.

Unbelievably, that's how the dealership I called tried to position themselves.

"Z06-level performance with four real seats....."

Thanks. My 5-seat E55 already wipes its butt with the Shelby.

I would have loved to have gotton the GT500, but the cheapest I found was a 10K-ish mark up (total of 55 thousand), BUT I would have had to drive 150 miles downsouth. Most expensive a dealer wanted was 120K...freaking nutz man.

I remember the dealer telling me that the Saleen Supercharged Mustang beats the new 911 Turbo around the track and ties the Ford GT in the 1/4 mile.

Keep in mind that 2 years ago, this same dealer told me that the Mustang GT does 0-60 in 4.2 seconds and 1/4 mile in mid 12's.

Ford either hires complete bull****ters or tie salesmen.
