A tale of two fools
going to work in the morning yesterday.. saw a Mustang GT going in and out of traffic passing cars and all of the sudden cut in front of me. .. I known regular mustangs with V-6 are not that fast.. but I dont know how much this Mustang GT got.. so he was the first car at the traffic light in front of me....
as soon as light turn green.. he punches the gas.. making big loud noises from dual exhaust blowing down the straight. a few micro sec later I punch mine too.. its a fairly long straight on Broadway Blvd.. we both get up to speed about 80-90 mph.. he was not pulling away from me.. and i was closing up on him.. I thought Mustang GT is faster but I guess i was wrong. and then there was this bend coming up.. we both doing about 90-100mph.. he had to slow down.. because of the bend.. i just took that bend like michael schmacher.. bye bye I said to myself.. while i pass him.. and then here comes to a traffic light.. we both had to stop violently.. I engaged with ABS and stopped with no drama.. he stompped his brake.. with loud screeching coming from that oversize brake and tires..so he wants to race again. given me a thumbs up.. I then tell myself.. nay.. this is good enough for me.. I am a happy man with C350..
later I found out that GT is no ordinary mustang.. Its got a V-8 with 320+ hp.. I guess it all boils down to drivers and german engineering.. I am happy with C class.. I am sure you guys too...

08 Mustang GT: quarter mile time of 13.8 seconds at 103 mph.
09 C350: quarter-mile in 14.5 seconds at 96.5.
The difference isn't extreme, so i can see how op's story is legible. Maybe op got the better gearing for the speed when they both went wot so he could keep up?

in the OPs story, no way a V6 pulling back on a V8 when the V8 has more power and probably similar weight (not sure what the curb weight is). i'm not trying to hate. just tons of racing exp. both on and off the drag strip

Question:
Do you think your C350 is as quick or quicker than my tuned E500? Keep in mind that my E500 is currently the quickest naturally aspirated one on record with a 13.49@102.5
Reason I ask is last time I ran my car at the track, I was up against an 08 Mustang GT. That particular run, I ran a 13.65, he ran a 13.47 and was pulling away from me.
No chance your C350 was reeling him in, or even keeping up at that speed if he was running full out.

like i said before.... i pass him on the turn.. not on the straight.. i pull on him because he has to brake for the turn.. i pass him easily before he had a chance to catch me again.. no hate .. i understand.. if straight.. no chance.. but with turns.. all bets are off..

I got nabbed by 7 police cars (sherif, local county, neighboring county, and college cop combined) for doing 140+ in a 35.... luckily my lawyer got my reckless (12 point ticket) driving charge knocked down to careless (4 point) with some strings attatched....

Most likely what happened, is he was walking you, but slowed down in anticipation of the upcoming turn. That's when the drag race ended, not when you passed him.
Hardly a kill but enjoy your C-Class!
I like them when my dealer gives them to me as loaners.

I hate speed limits... they, like laws, are only there to be broken...

Explain
Cuz you would lose.
It is as ordinary, common and vanilla as they get.
Both of you need brain mods.

Yeah, but this is a reckless driving law that equals jail time. How often do you commit crimes that mandate jail time? Thought so.

So have I-at a track. Not in a 35mph zone. I lie, I cheated on a girlfriend, and I've stolen something before-so Im no saint-but the point is not to encourage someone like this by applauding their "kill" (which is in question anyway).

Well yes I live off of trackdays... but I've never had the opportunity to take my SL out to the track, yet... Which is probably why I drive like a lunatic on the streets--because I have no "outlet" where I can go as fast as I want to...

I stole a spool of red thread when I was a little kid.....
I would suggest keeping your 99 SL500 as long as you possibly can then. If you get something truly quick, you're dead or someone else is.

Haha, I don't plan on ever selling my SL. I am looking for an '03 S55 though... Found a 60K mile '03 S55 in Longmont that I'm going to check out on monday... Guy only wants $27K for it. And its only a two owner car. Very clean looking...

I've been reading and no one has really said this yet...YOU ARE STUPID FOR RACING IN THE STREETS! Let's see, you were going to work which means it was probably in the morning. Kids going to school and pedestrians crossing the streets going to work. 100+ in a 35 zone? Pedestrians? Ever think you could easily have killed a kid or someone else? Kill yourself, not some innocent bystander. What are you trying to prove? Also, if it WAS a GT, it has ABS just as your C350 which would question how you heard so much squeeling from the GT's brakes and tires.

So you think it's ok to race in the streets? I would think a person with a track car would be an advocate of NOT street racing. If something bad happened and your child were killed, you wouldn't be posting a "relax and go have some fun". High speed runs on an empty freeway are done by many of us. But, this at least doesn't endanger innocent bystanders. Sorry, I really hate street racers and the danger they pose. Hope you can see my point.
