SL600 vs C6 Z06

Ok, I don't know what's happening all of a sudden, but I had yet another car want to race me. This time, it was an unassuming blue C6 Z06. Looked to be lowered with a set of wheels, possibly HRE's, it was hard to tell.

Anyway, just cruising at 65mph, top down, when I see him behind me, on my right. He's not speeding, same as me, and very slowly creeps up on me. Then I see his plate, "GETUSUM". Ok, I'll have me sum......

He cruises past me, then he blips the throttle, drops it a few gears, and slows back to even with me. Now, once I heard that, I knew he was modded. Still, I thought I'd take my chances. He looks over at me and gave me the "lets go" gesture. I drop in into 3rd, and woomp woomp it twice. I do the three honks, and got the jump on him. What happen next was embarrassing.

I had about a full car on him when he finally woke up. The noise that came out of that car when he flew past me, sounded like Lucipher's scream. He came by me so quickly, it's like I knocked the car into neutral. We shut it down pretty early, but it didn't matter. If we had more room, it'd only been a bigger beating. I pulled next to him, and he had a huge grin on his face. I screamed "holy crap, that thing is quick", in which he replied "I'm not stock". Yeah, ya think?

We did 2 more pulls and I swear he got faster each time. After the last pull, I asked him what it runs in the 1/4. He said that he hadn't run it yet, but told me it had a 454 motor swap. Who knows what else. Got my *** handed to me, for the very first time . I GOTMESUM alright...

Well at least he justified his plate.

His hp to weight ratio must be insane--- compared to yours no doubt. I love that blue in the Z06 too.

Nothing to be embarrassed about there. The 454ci swap is good for at least 600-700 at the wheels. Not to mention you have close to 1000lbs on him.

You win some, you lose some.

Heavily modified Z06s are no joke... Glad that he was a good sport about it. This may sound dumb but the only you can get back at him is if you add a secret shot of nitrous. ;-)

Get him back then!

Vic, I've never been pulled on like that before. Ever. That thing was bad ***.

Not putting nitrous on my car to win street races. Street racing is something I very rarely do. Just a few cars have tried me recently. An SRT10 Viper, S63, and this 'Vette.

I will say my favorite kills are the E60 M5s, like yours. Knife to a gunfight. The 3 or 4 that have picked a fight with me, have all been utterly destroyed. It's not so much the car I like beating as it is the drivers. For some reason, these M5 drivers were so damn cocky. And they've been the only car that Iv'e disposed of, where the driver doesn't show some short of respect at the end. I know it's not all E60 M5 guys, but all the ones that have egged me on, won't even look over afterwards. Hell, even the 335s and M3 guys were gracious in defeat, if you can imagine that!

However, I attended a HUGE E39 M5 event in Ohio last summer. Those guys were SUPER cool. There wasn't 1 E60 at the event. I guess the E39 guys feel the same about them.....

Anyway, yep. You win some, you lose some. That 'Vette laid a beatdown on me that I won't soon forget.

I'm not gonna lie. I would be honored to race you and lose. No kidding. I'm dead serious. Despite my "behavior" here so far, I actually am a good sport about winning and losing too.

I've lost to a Ferrari 458 Italia. Wasn't even a race. Seemed like I was going backwards very fast. I didn't mind whatsoever.

Sorry to bring up an old thread, but just had a chance to go up against a C5 Z06. 40-100. Walked him!

Other than efforts to reduce intake air temps, i am unmodded.

Hmm always thought that C5 Z06s were a lot faster than that... Didn't one bone stock trap like 12 seconds flat in the 1/4 mile at 119 mph? That's faster than any stock W211 E63 AMG I know... Maybe it was a regular C5 Corvette?

Actually several members here have cracked off 12.0-12.1's in stock E63s, and Oldgixxer cracked off an 11.9 @ 118.3 in his. MBForever got a 12.1 at 118.5. There are six of them in the 12.1-12.2 range at dragtimes, several of which are members from here.

Never seen a C5 Z06 trap 119 stock, that seems high. Fastest stock C5 on dragtimes is an 11.84 at 117.9, and that was at 37 degrees with a superfantastic -1800 DA, which would altitude-correct to a 12.086 @ 115.399 mph.

Fastest stock C6 Z06 trapped in the mid-hi 120s as I recall...they fly.

No need to feel silly. I don't have exact #'s but I believe a stock Z06 runs 0-150 in 18 seconds. I believe stock E55's and TT 600's run it in the 23-24 second range. In my travels with my old E55 (ran 12.13 stock) I could run with Z06's to the top of 2nd gear (85-90) then it was good night and the Z06walked away.

BTW, I was on the road the other night and was pimping a guy in a red C63 for a test of speed (I now have a 2010 LS460). The driver was agresive and when we came off the off ramp we hit it from about 45 mph and put about 10 car lengths on me (maybe 15; it was so much what's the difference) when I backed out of it about 99 mph. I laughed and thought "AMG power, baby!"
