2013 ML BlueTec Feels Much Different

There seems to be a night and day difference with the turbo lag when you compare the '12 to the '13. The '12 felt almost scary when you want to make a left at an intersection, pull into traffic or change lanes quickly. The '13 is very responsive and goes the moment you touch the accelerator.

Not sure if they changed something or if I previously drove a '12 that had problems. I'm guessing that MB tooled with the software and fixed the complaints many had about the '12's turbo lag.

I did notice that the '13 did seem to run/idle a bit louder than the '12. Nonetheless, the '13 diesel is very impressive.

Very interesting. MB bought back my first 2012 BlueTec and got me into another one since the car has such has hesitation and bucking. The first software fix that was supposed to fix everything did not and I ended up trading out of that car as well. I loved the car but could not tolerate the way it acted. If this were the case that the 2013 is smooth, I would love to get one. My E class goes back next week! Thank for the info!!!

The another thing is that MPG for the gas model has been changed as well. For 2012 ML it has the 17/23 but it's 18/23 for 2013. It seems that 302 HP and toque are the same for both. I don't know if this can be done with only software changes (ECU). Then, 2012 should be also able to be updated.

In Canada nobody ever complained of sluggishness. Well that any dealers or reps ever mentioned

Talking

I have a MY13 Bluetec with 1200Km and I have not experienced turbo lags or hesitations since day 1. This truck is very responsive and a joy to drive intown or on the long highway.

I have a late built '12 ML BT, and have never experienced (fortunately) any of the issues with hesitation/lag that have been mentioned. I can only think that they finally got things sorted out by the time I had mined delivered.

It was supposed to be all software related so hopefully that is then end of the issues. My first two were really bad, the second one was even after a software update.

The MY12 turbo lag was one reason I went for gas instead of diesel. Glad to hear there is continuous improvement going on.

If there is a lag and any bucking, get the car in for sure.

coldest day -4.5 C and I purposely jumped in started and headed down the road cranked up the engine a bit to getter movin and not a problem. Slightly longer shifts between gears only change.

Interesting INFO
build sheet from MB Tech folk(trans serial# engine serial#) shows performance upgrade pkg then adjustment pkg
but surprise says AMG speed shift trans. Dont act like it so if it is its dumbed down.
also says cornering lights.
Tech guy told SA its new type not the simple version so Im baffled.

Installed a Powerbox CR today and WOW! Whatever lag there was is now completely gone. The pick-up is night and day and my mpg actually increased. I drive about 100 kms to work and another 100 back everyday and the mpg went up significantly. It drives just like my 300hp MDX did now. No delay and power by the bucketful with the added perk of having gobs of torque compared to gas. I'll keep using it all week and let you know how it goes. Cheapest mod you can do for the money and great results so far.
