Headlight Swap Inquiry: Halogen > Bi-Xenon
Hello all,
I am very close to buying a set of Bi-Xenon Headlights for my 2012 ML350, which currently has the stock halogen bulbs installed, however want to make sure that I do all of my homework before making the purchase and realizing that they are not compatible, software-wise.
While at a 3rd-Party Mercedes Auto-tuning shop today, one of the service men cautioned me on purchasing these because the computer system associated with the vehicle may not accept the hardware and ultimately reject the functionality of these new bi-xenon lights.
Can Anyone please provide clarity or confirmation that Bi-Xenon Headlights CANNOT be mounted on a 12' ML350 that was purchased with Halogen mounted headlights?
I have a contact with a Mercedes Distributer Associate who can get me the lights at a reduced cost of $1,600, which I can use as a tax-write-off with my real estate agent occupation, however the main issue again is compatibility.
I understand, per my previous posts, that many users advise me to just live with these lights and upgrade my next MB w/ a lighting package. It is just a huge pet-peeve of mine, when I see a quality vehicle with low-grade, yellowish, front lighting; appearing somewhat dated.

Any insight would be greatly appreciated on this! Happy New Year!!

if it's that huge a pet peeve, why not just trade the car?
you're going to spend $2k, they won't work, and you'll simply end up getting rid of it anyway. Seems silly to me over headlights, the stock halogens are certainly adequate so this is just aesthetics.
My wife's E has the halogens, my ML has the ILS...I'll never purchase another benz without the ILS, but I certainly wouldn't pay to upgrade the E.

In any case, I also have the Halogens and just swapped the running bulbs and low beams with new 4K and LED Oram bulbs. They are MUCH whiter and brighter, so save the cash until the next car and just get the new bulbs.

Uhhhhh yeah that sounds TOTALLY legit (lotta sarcasm there)..."why of course I needed to spend $2k on "light bulbs" to better show houses at night".....good luck with that argument.
