2007 CLS63 Engine noise

I have a 2007 CLS63 with 8500 miles. At low speeds around 20-40 mph at low rpm I hear a knocking sound coming from within the engine. It is definitely not the radiotaor or anything like that, but sounds like it is from within the actual motor. I'm concerned about bringing the car to the dealer because I'm afraid they will pull the engine out and the car will never be the same again when they put it back in. Mechanics always have a way of screwing something up. Any info on what it might be and what I should do will be greatly appreciated.

Take it to the dealer since I have the same engine in my E63 and it doesn't exhibit that noise. What kind of gas are you using and what grade? I hope its 91 or 93 octane gasoline.

There have been other reports.

If the engine does have any damage, MB will replace the engine, not allow local mechanics to repair it. You can insist on that.

Hey MBFANATIC, how long was your car out of service? Was the noise coming from your motor loud? My engine noise is very difficult to hear, but it's there.

I haven't had any problems with my E63 engine. I would take it to your dealer and have the shop foreman examine it. I know they are replacing the engines in these things if there is even a slight problem since AMG wants to test the defective engines. Remember this is a 1st generation engine and its brand spanking new.

A little on the scarey side, could be piston slap for a loose piston in the bore. Some corvettes had this noise coupled with a higher oil consumption and GM replaced/rebuild the engines.

Engine Noise

I have a 2007 E63 with just over 11,000 mile with the same noise coming from the engine. The dealership has pulled the engine and are stating that MB want to repair it before replacing the engine. It is a warring of the rod baring in the 5th cylinder. I have been calling MB of North America stating that this is not satisfactory and am requesting a new engine. I have lost all confidence in the engine.

I would bring your car in as soon as possible. State to them that you have heard of a E63 in Dallas that had the same issues and has had MB USA tech's consulting the dealership with it. These problems need to get to MB USA so that they know they have a problem with these engines and we can get them replaced. Let me know.

My car was built in October 2006. I have yet to bring it in for this noise, but I will soon. The problem is that the noise at times is very hard to hear. I fear that I will bring my car in to the dealer and they will give me the old runaround "Hey, what noise?"

I followed the break-in procedure very carefully. I plan on keeping this car indefinitely, so I maintain and treat the car very good.

MB is replacing my engine. They tried to replace the rod bearings to no avail. The noise continued after the rebuild. As I stated before I would bring it in as soon as possible and state that you know of the same issue with an E63 in Dallas and that MB USA is replacing the engine. I would demand a new engine and be messed around like I have been for the last month.

Thanks for the post, but I know that mentioning what happened to another car will not help me because dealers have to follow procedure. I'm still trying to get my brake squeal fixed by them.
