Seriously tho, R230 SL was facelifted in 2005 so my 03 doesn't use the 05+ navi unit...plus not all other models use the same unit either...at least the SLK doesn't...

. You can check at MB OEM parts to know more.SLK W171 also. I have install many of them. I don't see any problem with these cars

SL W230, 04 and before have CD_ base. But it also can be upgrade to DVD base and use TRUNK unit like this. This nav drive is used for SL 05 and after . You can check at MB OEM parts to know more.
SLK W171 also. I have install many of them. I don't see any problem with these cars

The current SL is R230 not W230 and the same for SLK. Yes, the unit is the same one but the trim isn't. A W211 unit would not fit into SL without major modification. Even Steve @ MBenzNL doesn't recommend going this route. SLK has a different unit so it wouldn't fit either.
Does it have mounting screws etc?
