OK guys....here's the scoop on my finding a fix for my lean problem.......

As you guys all know that I have been experimenting with Upsolute chip and Vaeth 3.8 bar fuel pressure regulator trying to find a fix for my lean problem. First, I has the Upsolute chip installed and I was very happy with it based on my “butt dyno” until I has my car dyno at Vadim’s shop and was very surprised that the chip didn’t do anything at all to help my lean problem but instead, it created a little mis-fire (spike/hesitation) on dyno. This go to show you that once again, “butt dyno” are unreliable and wrong again. So I’ll say it again to those that has pulley installed in their car. Have your car dyno !!! Don’t trust any MFG.
Next, I removed the chip because of the misfire it created and installed the Vaeth 3.8 bar fuel pressure regulator and has my car dyno again at Vadim’s shop. This time, the results were unbelievable. The engine was running much richer then last time. It was so rich in some area that I actually lost about 3 hp in bottom end and about 7 hp in top end (4500-6000 RPM) but the torques remain the same at 219.3 lbs-ft. This is a trade off in which I am very gladly to give up for a healthier running engine.

I have attached the old A/F ratio chart to compared with the new A/F ratio spec. (sorry, I don’t have the new A/F ratio chart yet because Vadim was to busy but I’ll break it down for you to make it easier to understand). This is the new A/F ratio spec.

A/F ratio w'FPR (after) / A/F ratio without FPR (before)

2000-2500 RPM @ 13.5:1 / 15.0:1
2500-3000 RPM @ 13.8:1 / 14.5:1
3000-3500 RPM @ 13.5:1 / 14.5:1
3500-4000 RPM @ 12.5:1 / 14.0:1
4000-4500 RPM @ 13.0:1 / 14.0:1
4500-5000 RPM @ 12.5:1 / 14.0:1
5000-5500 RPM @ 12.5:1 / 13.5:1
5500-6000 RPM @ 13.5:1 / 14.0:1

As you can see it, I now have a healthier running engine then before after I installed Kleemann pulley. I am also happy to say that I might be able to tell you where to buy the 4.0 bar fuel pressure regulator for $50 instead of $100 (not include shipping), which I bought from Mr. Vaeth in Germany. E-mail me if you ever need one.

Nice guess !!! But didn't i already told you, Brad, Vadim, Carl...etc. about it? Here's a question for you, Kleemann? Since i found a fix, are you now going to include the Fuel pressure regulator with your pre-2000 pulley kit? Or are you still not admitting that your's pre-2000 pulley kit does not create lean problem?

Hello Linh,

I am supposed to install my Kleemann pulley kit onto my w203 (c200K) this coming Tuesday (30 July).

After reading your post, I am a bit worried as to whether I should get a Fuel Pressure Regulator first before I do anything.

Please advise.

Thanks

Actually the fuel pressure regulator on the W203 is part of the fuel pump assembly inside the gas tank. The only pulley kit that I know of that includes this is the Wetteraur. The fix for you is to take your car to an MB dealer first and have them set the fuel quantity correction to Stage 2 or Stage 3.

This is the screen shot from that Kleemann provided on another post.

Nong,

On your car, you don't need the FPR to fix the lean problem. Just take your car to the dealer to have the fuel setting reset to stage 2 or 3. I don't know which stage is best for your car. You definitely need to do this if you want to install the pulley.
