Question Considering 2018 S 560 Coupe. Should I or Nah!???

Hey group,
I'm considering upgrading from 2014 CL 550 4Matic to a 2018 S 560 4Matic Coupe. My CL runs like it did the day I bought it, zero issues.
Anything I should know about the S 560 before pulling the trigger?

I had one, and then an amazing S63 was traded in at my friend dealership and the deal was too good to pass up. I enjoyed the S560 and would still have it if it was not for the S63. Yes Car Play is not really designed for a non touch screen, but I got used to it. The drive by wire delay was easily solved with a throttle controller. Mine was pretty well optioned and was the second coupe (2016 S550 coupe), and the 560 is a much better car than the 500. I would not hesitate to buy another one. Good luck

Thanks Carnut1, I've heard of some issues and I need some feedback from actual owners.

TZTony,
I bought my 2019 S560 coupe brand new. It has been trouble free and is the favorite amongst my other 2 MB's. I will NOT sell it. It is a keeper. Althiugh it may be lacking in some late model equipment I will keep it due to it's reliability. I have not had the first problem, big or small, with this vehicle.

The same with my 2014 CL 550, trouble free. I am a bit reluctant to part with it.
I'm really loving this 2018 that I have my eye on.

You like what you have, you have no problems with it and you know its service history -- I'd keep it. My G550 is a '19, and I feel the same way. My dealer has been pestering me for 6 months about making a deal on a '26, and I'm just not interested in trading what I have for an unknown.

Yes, the car will need oil separators and rear main seal at some point.

I've had a 2018 S560 4-Matic Coupe for two years now that I bought from a local BMW dealer. Overall, it's been a great car.

There were some issues.

A coil pack caused misfires. I isolated the faulty one but then decided to just replace all of them. Did this myself.

While replacing the coil packs and plugs discovered there was some oil in some of the plug wells. This is caused by minor leaks in the valve covers. If you're familiar with older cars you may be thinking that's something easily handled. On most modern overhead cam engines, especially with direct injection, it's a fairly big job to replace the valve cover gaskets. Actually, there's no gaskets, just sealant. Probably why they leak. One theory is it's the oil separators clogging. On some engines this can also lead to a rear main seal leak. I checked the separators and they weren't clogged. My view is the leak wasn't bad enough to fix. I'll check the plugs occasionally.

The car has the ILS LED headlights, which in the US gives you just automatic high beams and some steering of the lights in turns. The left headlight has a subtle fault that will cause the advanced features to become inoperative. Doesn't affect basic operation or manual high beams. This fault came with the car when I bought it, no extra charge. I didn't get a warranty. I'm in the process of solving this one on my own. Needless to say, headlights are very expensive on these cars.

If you're not a DIY type, then I suggest getting a warranty if possible. If I buy another one I think I would also get a warranty since this is our daily driver.

One other item. Most S class cars depreciate from new fairly rapidly based on mileage. If the car you're looking at has unusually low mileage then be cautious. Odometer blockers and other methods are readily available out there. It's possible to spot this using diagnostic tools since mileage is stored in more than one module within the car.

Yes, I would buy another one. I prefer the coupe so newer options are going to be limited. I think 2021 is the last year for the coupe.

Thanks for that very detailed assessment. I purchased a 2017 Coupe yesterday. Drove 300 miles to get it. 2 owner w/ moderate miles 58K, zero accidents and dealer maintained by both owners.
So far I am pleased. Nice 300 mile trip home and I put her to the test.
The 9 sp trans seemed a bit more responsive than my 7 speed.
I think I got the right one.
Had been looking all over for over a month.
🤞🏽

Did you get the S500 (S550 in the US) with the 9G? This one I think is one nice pairing - m278 + 9G. I would think it could be a better pair than m176 + 9G.
