Thumbs up 2000 S-Class Timeport / V.60c Upgrades now available

FYI,

This 'official' information has just arrived so your local dealer may NOT be aware of it, yet.

>>> MY 2002 S-Class Timeport and V60 phone systems are approved for installation in MY 2000 S-Class vehicles. The backward compatibility of these phone kits answers requests for a Mercedes-Benz integrated, tri-mode phone system for use in "dual-band era" StarTAC equipped vehicles. Now owners of MY 2000 S-Class vehicles can aslo enjoy the same carrier and rate plan benefits enjoyed by users of newer tri-mode phones?

Note:
- Retrofit parts and installation costs are not reimbursable under warranty.
- Only MY 2000 V220.170 and .175 are approved for Timeport / V60 upgrades.
- Timeport / V60 installations will not upgrade vehicle related phone functions beyond MY 2000 StarTAC level.

Reference Star Bullettin P-I-82.64/189. <<<

...RAB

P.S. Note, this upgrade will NOT work with the early, MY00 analog cell phone S-Class vehicles.

I guess this still does not help me as I have the old Motorola phone in my 2000 S500.

This is becoming real BS!! This is got to be the most frustrating problem! I've got a $2000 option that is worth sh*t!

Thanks MB.

I would be very interested in knowing what it would take for this upgrade kit and the ease of installation etc.
Many thanks

It is very easy. A PSE swap, installation of a new cradle/short cord kit. That is it. About a 15 minute job that a end user can even do if they have basic DIY knowledge.

Part Numbers for the Upgrade Kit

Hi, I just finished talking to our area dearler (Indianapolis) --
Here are the part numbers for the retro kit:
Q6820707; Q6820720 and Q6820725 (Total $1450)
The Verizon Handset is Q6820787 ($595)
He also mentioned they have to check and see if the antenna in the rear fender (??) is comptabile -- Only if the part number says (220A201975) its good -- otherwise, you are looking at another $181 --
On top of all this -- the installation is around $400
So, the total estimate is around $2,600
I guess, I have started to appreciate my present StarTac very much !!!
Have fun

Angry 1999 ANALOG PHONES

We should start a e-mail campaign to get Mercedes to resolve the problem with retrofitting these $1800.00 phones. The phone in my ML320 is currently not usable since I cannot find a reasonable plan.

Any suggesgtions????

I agree MB should be ashamed. I have a 2000 S500 that has the analog. No service providers are avail in my area for analog (under 1.21 a minute). My state passed a no cell and driving unless you use hands free. So I too am stuck witha 2000 upgrade that is **** and my car is still under warranty.

I see class action suit written all over this. Think about it they build cars that can only work with "thier" special phones and the phones become un-useable and they want an additional 2600 to fix a Propietary issue they created. BS BS. I say lets Sue is thier an Attorney in the house?

Why don't you "accidentally" fry your existing phone set-up and get it replaced under warranty. Since the analog set-up is obsolete, I doubt that they still make those parts. Just a suggestion.

I have a 2003 S500 on order, I have 5 days to change the setup. I was thinking about adding the V60 option.

Any comments?
