More bass

Does anyone have any information on upgrading the bass in the S-class? I have a 2004 S500 and I am looking at upgrading the woofer and/or adding an amp to increase the power output.

Does anyone have a recommendation?

Ya I posted the same question a while back with no responses. If you have the bose system it supposedly has an "autopilot" feature that has to do with road noise cancellation. If you add a sub without disabling this, which the MB dealer can supposedly do, then when the bass hits from your added sub it will confuse the system and make funny noises or something like that. I looked at mine a few times I bought a phoenix gold signal coverter, basically a fancy line level converter with lots of adjustments and I was going to tap off the back deck factory sub wiring for a signal. I keep having trouble with the seat lumbar the pump, which is so conveniently mounted in the trunk not the seat like every other car, keeps burning out so I havent really wanted to add anything to the car especially in the trunk since the dealership has been warrantying all the seat issues even though I am out of warranty because it is an ongoing problem. I bought an 1000 watt alpine amp and a kicker 10 inch sub they are collecting dust on a shelf. I would be happy with a little more bass I dont need too much more. I saw online somewhere a custom shop removed the factory sub and built a box under the deck. The factory sub is built into a plastic thing so you cant just remove the sub itself and upgrade it.

Not sure if you guys have ever looked at the back of you comand system. It is dificult to modify these systems but it can be done. If you plan on keeping your comand system and just adding bass, you will need someone with a clear understanding of how MB systems work otherwise you'll end up with a big mess. Dont get me wrong, it's been done several times before but it's not an easy task. One mess up could result in thousands of $$$$$$$in repairs so be careful. You can power your amps directly from battery and a powered source easily but you have to know where to tap for the sound. Take your trunk apart and you'll see what I mean.

The point is that the Bose system already has amps and a woofer and a lot of other components. They are designed to work together. For instance, there are some very odd equalization curves built into the amps, which the speakers compensate for. It's the Bose philosophy. I don't love it either, but the alternative is really ripping out everything and starting over. Just replacing one speaker or amp or adding one will not work because the system is so specialized.

People have done that. But you need someone who understands the car and has lots of experience with installing high-end systems in these cars. Otherwise you will end up with worse sound than you started with and, possibly, very expensive damage to SAMs, COMAND, fiber ring components or myriad other little boxes that cost a grand apiece.

If you do wish to try just adding more bass (although it's not going to make for high-end sound), this is the best tutorial I've seen:

https://mbworld.org/forums/e-class-w210/203690-how-adding-sub-your-stock-bose-system-line-output-convertor.html

Just be careful messing around with the rear of an S-class. It's stuffed with expensive goodies and don't forget that wall between your trunk and the rear seat is the gas tank.

Neither does yours.. Well not exactly the way you are thinking..,, it's function is software controlled and can be modified through STAR. YOu can turn it up or down to increase or decrease its sensitivity or the amount of gain increase. good luck explaining that to your local dealer..
But it isn't something that can be removed physically...its all built into the logic.

The best quickest way to defeat it is to remove the mic in your upper center console. If you have a phone system then you can;t do that of course...

Here it is.. The mic is under the panel.

Remember though,, this is not a Honda... You'll have to rip out a lot of stuff and retool a lot of things in order to modify the sound in these cars..
The signal to the speakers come from the Audio Gateway located in the rear of the car and there is a bose amplifier, and all of that is ties to your MOST system and linked to the Canbus.. so it's not a simple thing to do on the S class..

I.O.W. Don't expect the audio geek at Best buy to be able to make this happen for you.

In fact, I'd say its easier to rip the whole thing out and start over than to integrate.. THere are members using JL clean sweeps and other stuff but I don;t know how that's hooked up and what the actual gain is at the end of spending all of that money. You'll have to search.

Adding Sub's, Cam, Amps

Future Custom in atlant GA does it all the time. They change nav to DVD and nav. They use the bose system. They just reprogram some of the buttons and add the equip.. $2700 with rear cam and 1 sub and amp. Freddie is the owner! Will get number and post it. Top shelf operation most celebrities. Go to this shop!
