W220 transmission

I have a 2004 S-430 (non 4 matic) I recently had the valve body and conductor plate replaced only after replacing these is my vehicle now NOT starting and they said it is because I need a new shifter but my car turned one perfectly fine before the change my question is this does the shifter or entire system need to be flashed to accept the new conductor plate?

Probably not fitted correctly. So it's not seeing park or neutral. If it's 722.6 there will be no need to flash it

It's the 722.9 and isn't seeing park or drive

722.9 you must program and scn code online. And learn the ESM

I'm assuming folks at Mercedes Benz of Seattle didn't do that than cause it completely just stopped working after the replacement

Strange they should know the procedure. What are the fault codes in transmission and ESM?

That must have been the old fault and the reason why they replaced it. What are the faults now that it does not crank. Has the selector lever position been learnt? And does it pass or fail this function?

They just told me that it's not reading park or drive and I have a faulty floor shifter and that's the reason why its not turning on but as I said before it used to turn on perfectly fine before that never any kind of hesitation

The floor shift is called the ESM. It's diagnosable using xentry. Find out what those codes are if any, another check you can do is when you switch the ignition on is it displaying P on the instrument cluster? That would indicate that The ESM is transmitting data

When I shifted into park it does read P it just does not read drive

I also just read online that the brake switch can cause this same error to pop up and that's why it will not read the drive selection

Reads P but shift to D and the display goes off. Or could even show F ! first step is reads faults of ESM. I must say I have never has a 220 ESM fail in this way. Many on 203 and 168 yes. I wonder if When the valve body was fitted if they lined up the shift valve with the pin on the gear linkage. If the faults in the ESM don't indicate failure I would remove the sump again and make sure all is ok inside.

No brake switch cannot do that. Your car probably works on the brake pressure sensor telling ESM that pedal is pressed. But that will only prevent the car from coming out of park. It will not cause a non start condition

The dealer told me it just read as a faulty shifter which I did believe because when I would press my brake pedal I would hear a "click" come from the shifter that I haven't heard in other W220's

It could be that the shifter mechanism needs adjustment. Its just a threaded rod that has to be the right length.

If it comes out of park the brake pedal operation is fine. Check with diagnostics if the gearbox is seeing park as well as the shifter

After the valve body and conductor plate was changed , was the car hooked up to Mercedes SDS computer to clear the transmission codes ,? This is essential

I would also like to note that I tried replacing the conductor plate myself before going to Mercedes of Seattle and it did the same thing it's doing now so I returned that plate and put my old one in and it started perfectly fine only when the new plate is in does it not start that is why I am asking if it could simply be that they need to flash the whole system to accept the new plate and start

If it's fine with your old plate , but not the new one, then it's either a faulty new plate or its not being programmed correctly

It's done it with both the new plates that were installed so I'm guessing the plate isn't faulty they just aren't programming it correctly

If I get the ignition, shifter and ECU from the same donor car will I have to do anything else other than install it? Will it matter what year it came from as long as its a w220 model and will that also matter if I have the 722.9 transmission?
