Red lights on dash
I just noticed these lights tonight on the corner of my dash, next to the vin. They flashed and beeped just before I turned into my street tonight. Anyone know what they are?

Look under the dash for an on/off and sensitivity/volume knob. Also pop the hood and see if you have a radar module mounted behind the grille. I had a built-in K40 radar detector on my M5 that I didn't realize was there for the first few months I owned the car. It was a very stealthy install.

an older k40 calibre radar detector. hard wired. left led is front, right led is rear.
in this day and age this particular model is mostly a nuisance as it will go off on every audi and other cars with lane departure/ blind spot warning equipment.

I couldn't agree more. Dealers charged a huge premium to install them and I did find it to be mostly a nuisance. The only time I used it was when I was on the interstates or traveling late at night in light traffic. It supposedly had a laser jammer as part of the package, but multiple tests proved that the K40's laser jammer didn't jam any type of laser gun.

K40 are generally considered mediocre. Average at best range, zero laser jamming capabilities and astronomical price.

When we picked up my wife's Q7 an hour out of town, I didn't realize the thing emitted microwave signal on the radar band. I followed in the S and my V1 was going bat****. Kept texting her to warn her about all the speed traps we were going through.
