CD Changer does not work. I did buy a new CD changer and even the new one did not work. When attached to the car it behaved like the old one. The red lights won't turn one.
I searched fuses and diagrams and every fuse is good. Radio, Sat, everything else is working only the CD is not. Eject button does nothing except if hold for 10 seconds reboots the system. Before it worked and the red lights below the CD number lighted up, but now no. Can you guys shed some light where to look now?
....the cd changer is basically a cd drive like a computer had - do you mean you stripped the comand system down and replaced just the cd mechanism or do you mean you really bought the entire comand NTG 3 head unit and just plugged it in hoping you can now play a cd ?

the early units had very dodgy software and by mid 2008 they had ironed out most, till it was kind of usable
the heater and AC controls, plus Aux TV DAB etc. is coding malarkey
but pretty sure a functioning comand unit will play a cd or dvd if the drive is functioning correctly regardless
you are getting sound on all other sources ? no noise is the amp in the boot - which dies as a std option they fitted on all 221s ever made
Sorry for the very late reply. So, after almost an year I still have this issue. I don't have Xentry, I only have Delphi and still there's no issues found. I have a friend with an software for all cars which is Online and did scan my car and only found one issue which is now resolved, but not to the DVD.
According to all people that did scan the car, there's no issues with the DVD/CD Player itself. I tried to look over the internet for possible fixes, but did not stumble across an issue like mine, which got me in a labyrinth. Basically I did an workaround and bought Bluetooth transmitter, but the sound quality is not like the DVD/CD, which fir me is a MUST. I did upgrade the COMAND display with Android navigation, but unfortunately most Android devices here in my country (if not all) does not support the W221 USA/Canada model which the S550. I fixed one of the modules that made the whole COMAND unit to fail - Sirius Satellite Radio. Made a loop of the Fiber Optics which resolved the No Radio issue. Still the DVD buttons does not power up, there is also no sign that the DVD is live. But the interesting part is that if I hold the Eject button for more than 10 seconds the whole COMAND unit resets, which from my point of view the Unit is working but DVD has no power. I tested with few more COMAND units and they also did not had the DVD buttons nor the whole DVD power. Everything else like Radio, Car functions and etc. works without the DVD/CD Player. This is giving me headaches... If someone know where I should look because I looked for:
1. Fuses.
2. Errors for modules.
3. Water on every d*mn unit.
4. Opened Fiber loops.
5. Cables to the Amp in the trunk and etc.
Which is my best way to get this sh*t working or I should call a doc and priest, the doc to tell the Time of Death and the priest to pay the player respects and to forget about this think?

So I don't mean to be crass, but I hope that you do know there is a button on the console marked Disk/Radio. It is the first button on the left side of the console. If you press it the first time your radio will activate. If you press it again, the radio is turned off and the disk changer is turned on.
Give that button a press and then tell me if there is any difference. Good luck.
While selected the MP3 or CD/DVD audio the dvd is not working. You can see below when I select it.

I'm sorry, but the CD changer is part of the COMAND module. Please explain what happens when you click the "load" button?
Furthermore, I'd like to propose one thing:
* Find someone in your region that can give you a firmware upgrade of your COMMAND system
* Upgrade
* Stop using CD, and start using SD cards, load them with MP3's, suggest max 32GB
* I have a 6 CD changer (well before my insane audio upgrades) but I've not used it in at least 6- years. I use SD cards only, with MP3's)
except never ever use the MP3 section - the quality off a card is utterly horrific - all your upgrades are worthless played in via the car's MP3 disaster format
I have the old decrepit add on of the ipod 2 and then on my ipod secretly stashed in hidden settings you can convert all your tracks to vastly higher quality .WAV files and the sound quality of this vs MP3 is about 20 fold better
with the later tech out there for not much can you get lossless stuff to play - you likely want this (or similar)
the extremely rare v2 goes as loud as ALL other sources (after toggling a secret menu) and has a few more options to confuse via its idiot interface and allows the rear view camera night vision to operate (blue plug and later box of trick versus the earlier black plug) - check out how the later cable is almost twice as thick... and with an additional power connector - allegedly to supply later apple stuff with 12V vs the original apple stuff that was 5V only
Thank you guys for your support, but, the MOST is strong no issues with the fiber. Two independent shops here checked everything of the optics and MOST of the car with statement: No issues.
My car came with iPod connector in the glove box. I remove it because I am not a fan of apple products. DVD were working without any issues. Changed batteries changed what else and still the DVD worked. Bypassed Sirius Satellite module - still DVD worked.. one day it just stopped.
And that's it.. no issues while using xentry, or launchpad diagnostics...

the DVD drive is an integral part of the entire comand headunit
there are single disc and 6 disc changer versions of the DVD player
the original comand unit software was horrific and they broke it for 2 years - with three minor updates before the last big update in Sept 2008 made it behave fairly normally
it is common no one ever applied any software updates to these cars
if you have bird's-eye 3D map view (well hidden in the menus) and traffic message info display (orange and red cars displayed when stuck) then you have that last update

The MP3 via SD card is a stop-gap solution and tbh I survived well enough with it for *years* and years, it was much better than dealing with CD's & DVD's for sure.
Agree 100% with all points. My father's S350 is not COMMAND firmware updated and it behaves poorly compared to mine which is firmware updated.
