W222 S550 M278 Resonator Delete Question

Hi guys,

I have been trying to find someone or some example videos that may have done a resonator delete on their 2014+ S550 to see how it sound or if people like it.

I was thinking of getting this done just to liven up the car a little bit and get a little more sporty or throaty sound out of it. I already have a muffler electronic valve bypass done but sometimes would like that little extra kick without spending thousands on a fully custom exhaust system.

can anyone share or chime in on this topic? If anyone had this done, how was the sound, drone, any issues? Etc.

Thanks all!

I've seen it done & it causes a terrible drone... It sounds awesome but if it's your daily, I'd pass.

If you search Mercedes W222 Resonator Delete you'll get a handful of samples. It will sound amazing, but you'll create drone, lose performance, and completely change the personality of the vehicle.

As someone who modified his exhaust, regretted it, and went back to stock, I can testify that removing or installing exhaust components not specifically designed for the S-Class will lead to disappointment.

Hey thanks for the input, didn’t realize it would create lots of drone. Regarding the search for w222 resonator delete, I’ve done that and all that I am able to find are w222 s63 engines having this done. I specifically wanted to hear a regular s550 w222 that had this done. But, regardless thanks for sharing your thoughts.

I did resonator delete on my 2015 s550 sedan and it gave it a tad bit more depth and it also allowed the turbo whistles to be heard. If you’re just looking for a little more tone and nothing crazy then I would say go for it. I personally did not notice a crazy drone from doing it. I am no expert but I believe it depends on the type of piping the shop uses to replace the resonators. I just recently got an s560 coupe 2019 and did a resonator delete as well. For the coupe it made a much more noticeable difference vs on my sedan. Albeit, two different engine and exhaust set ups. I unfortunately do not have any clips of my sedan with only the res delete as I also had aftermarket catback exhaust.

Thanks for your feedback. You make it sound enticing I wish I could get a sound clip to compare. Might have to pull the trigger and get this done. Thanks

here’s my coupe. Top is before resonator delete and bottom is after. The first start up is as soon as the video starts so you may have to replay to catch it. Hope this helps!

thank you for going out there and getting a side by side video for me. That’s exactly the kind of slight and throaty sound I’d love to get.

It might be slightly different I assume as you mentioned compared to my 2015 s550 sedan. I currently have an electronic valve right before the mufflers so I can choose wether I want res delete + no muffler or res delete + muffler for a slightly quieter mode if wanted.

Would you happen to have any video with a couple revs to hear if it pops or how the sound is in general?

Again thanks for making the video! Sounds very nice

Mine is a res delete....it is also tuned....
I don't hear any kind of drone or any other sound diminishing the new exhaust note
If you're still interested in a video I'll take one of a cold start for you if you'd like.
Let me know!

Hi Pete,

If you wouldn’t mind, I’d love to hear a sound video of a start up and some revs if possible?
thats awesome that you do not notice any major drone. I’m getting ready to pull the trigger on this mod day by day!

looking forward to your video.
