The good news is the fuel door closed every time without drama but that damn trunk. It doesn’t like the cold and will not latch. When leaving in the morning, it was in the garage, warm, and it worked fine as I put stuff in. Then moved it closer to the house and it sat out for about 30 min in 17F temps… loaded more then tried to close it, nope, popped open. Green button didn’t help. Got my wife’s hairdryer and warmed it up and like magic it latches. 20 min later we were off. Aggravating.
The rest of the trip was cold, 15-20F, and it wouldn’t latch at each stop. The mechanism cycled oddly like it didn’t know what to do. Sometimes it would try and latch and others nothing and it would pop open. My solution was to cup my hands, breathe on it, cycle the green button and after 15 min or so, and multiple attempts, it would warm up and latch. No bungee this trip. Got to our house here, mid 30s it worked perfectly.
Some pics along the way. Biggest hassle was snow and mess in Indiana and crazy winds in SD. Always winds in SD!
My car's electronics have often acted a bit flaky in cold weather, so hopefully your trunk lid will behave itself once it warms up.

I am getting a CEL with codes for the O2 sensor. I’ve cleared them a couple times. Doubt it’s the O2 sensor based on when it pops - mainly in EV mode. Why does it think the O2 sensor is involved? I could replace it, looks like an easy job, luckily it’s easily accessible. From the BMW sites many are getting CELs for various reasons.
See if this link works, I’ve posted about the X5:

Each morning the trunk wouldn’t latch. Damn thing. 50F and 40F… about 15 min fiddling with it each time plus colorful language before it finally closed. Once I get it cleaned up it’s going to the dealer for a new latch. See if the Fidelity warranty covers it.
And after living with our new X5 and its touch screen the MB Command control things are so old and aggravating. And BMW’s Assist Plus is really nice. The Driving aids in the S work fine and I use them all the time. I love the S but I may look at a new gas 7. No plans to switch but BMW has nice tech, interface, and good seats. The exterior is the weak point on the 7.

On most roads it’s incredible, smooth, quiet, and it just eats up miles. And some road surfaces are so weird the noise is ridiculous. Can’t imagine how loud it must be in other cars. It’s still rattle and squeak free yet time will tell after back and forth across Indiana… some terrible roads.

That new quarter turn oil drain plug pops out fast! First time doing it and a slight turn and it’s out. And lots of oil. Glad my catch thing was right there. I’m used to drain plugs with lots of thread before it comes out.
I changed the oil in the S after replacing a couple coolant hoses on the FF. Got lots done today. Then a nice drive with my wife.
