Pothole scanner S580

So for the first time my 2022 S580 is warning me of potholes ahead on several roads around my home which do have medium to small size potholes. The warning comes on quick on the center and front screens. I smiled and knew that it probably had a recent OTA that activated this feature.

Anyone else noticed this?

I'm always wondering how they get this information. I want to say its something to do with there Car To X situation, but how they report this is beyond me. I have EABC in my car and see the pothole warnings all the time and also marks it on the map where they are. Most of the times there wrong data but a few times was pretty spot on.

Yeah, this is part of Car-to-X, but only the W223, W206 and the EQS can report them automatically via the suspension controller as described below. However, the alerts are relayed to all MBs on the road. Downside is somebody actually has to drive through them for the potholes to be reported. Any volunteers ? There are similar reports made if your ABS or ESP activates to warn other drivers of potentially slippery conditions.

The newest generations of the C-Class and S-Class, as well as the new EQS electric hatch, feature a suspension control unit that can register a pothole or bump and then send this information to Mercedes' cloud via the mobile phone network, so that it can be forwarded to other vehicles connected to the cloud. The control unit only sends information once a certain threshold is met.

Pretty neat, however I just ignore them as it don't work all that well LOL. I think the EABC thing also is kind of useless. Only reason I'm glad I have it on the car is for resale.

Interesting, I guess we will need to wait for more support from SUV owners, or EQG for that matter that vehicles designed to better withstand these road hazards and with beefier tires.

EABC might hurt on resale. I don’t have it and wouldn’t buy a car with it as I don’t like the way it makes the car feel. There’s some pretty negative comments about EABC on this forum by owners.

We get them sometimes listed as "Rumble Strips Ahead or Speed Bump Ahead" when really the road is just pure PA shizzle.

I wonder if you can adjust it? For example does EABC include the curve mode?

Yes, Curve Mode is part of EABC. EABC cars do HANDLE great and I love the curve mode setting. Unfortunately, unlike the previous MBC or “Magic Body Control,” that was offered as an option on the W222 cars, EABC does not deliver an amazingly smooth RIDE like MBC did. I got suckered into paying the $6,500.00 for EABC and it has ruined the whole 223 experience for me. DO NOT ORDER EABC!

Truly sorry to hear that, MB bragged about it a lot when it first came out, something innovative and how fast it reacted compared to conventional air suspension were the selling points, including but not limited to Free Driving Assist, disappointed to hear that it didn't work as well as it was promised for you.
