Map Update Cadence

I bought a 2022 model S580 new a month ago from a dealer in Atlanta. I use built-in navigation often and prefer it over Apple CarPlay because of the integration with my Heads Up Display. Road construction in Atlanta, especially near the top-end Perimeter, quickly make the maps out-of-date. Even for CarPlay and Google Maps. I noticed the latest Mercedes map update online was from 2022. I'm curious if anyone knows how often the maps are updated and thus, made available for over-the-air updates in my car?

In hopes of hurrying the process along, last weekend (May 2023) I went through the process of downloading the complete map update (9.4 GB) from Map update (mercedes-benz.com) and uploaded to my car. After the update finished, I noticed the map version was 2022 (V13.0). I've read elsewhere that the version of Download Manager controls the map update version. Can anyone confirm?

And finally, I called MBUSA, the representative told me maps are updated several times per year. I doubt that is true, but thought someone here might know the cadence for sure?

Thank you in advance for any guidance and information.

V14 (2023) here in Europe too. Did you check that the manual update was successful? Should tell at the SW update info page.

The download manager version does not affect the maps update version as long as the download manager works. You are informed during the manual update process if the download manager needs to be updated.

V19 is the latest in the USA and just came out a few days ago. Version numbers differ per country.
MBUSA releases map updated twice a year.

Thanks everyone for the quick response, and to you Eaton for the information on cadence and latest US map version.

After the installation, the update is a bit misleading as it says 2022 V13.

Sorry, I meant to say V19 is the latest in the USA.. at least for my car. It's shown as 2023 (V19.0). It's not an S-Class though, so maybe the new MBUX cars get different versions.
Ultimately you just need to check this page and see if it says you are up to date: https://www.me.mercedes-benz.com/pas...ap-update.html

MBUX and e.g. COMAND maps versions are different. I agree with you that usually released versions are different for different regions too (not sure if it is the case for the W223 MBUX but I would have expected so).

As said above, MBUX and COMAND are on different streams and the version numbers are different. My COMAND NTG 5.5 (USA) is on V24 for example. Map updates come out 2-3 times a year. Most often it's two updates per year, but I have gotten three on occasion. But that's just when they release the latest data they have. Doesn't mean new roads have actually been mapped yet.

You can help the process along by using the HERE Map Creater on https://wego.here.com/ and report missing roads etc. I've done that a couple of times in the past and my reported changes were in the next update.

My car is the first gen MBUX. I guess the latest gen has a different map package/version.

Looking now, the Southeast US shows that I'm up to date, even though my map version in my car shows that I'm on 2022 V13. I'm puzzled.

I can’t figure out the map stuff either. I am on 2022 v13. Back in February, Mercedes Me connect said update available for v14. I purposely did not manually download it, as I wanted to see how long it would take for my region to update OTA. Last week when I checked on mercedes me, it now says i am up to do but shows v13. I don’t even see v14 anymore. For this reason, I gave up. I will just manually update once a year myself while it’s free to do….

This is what mine says as of 5 minutes ago. I don’t know what happened to v14 that was showing available back in February.

Unfortunately there is no download link available. The download manager takes care of downloading the selected area maps and the file is locked to the car VIN. A bit older MBs had a different download manager and update files were available for free and files were not VIN locked. However the car asked for a VIN locked PIN code to start the update. PIN codes were expensive but some companies started selling cracked PIN codes.

Wanted to provide an update to my original post: I checked this morning, and an update to 2023 (V15) maps is now available. Doing a quick check, most regions in the US have been updated to V15. I installed the southeast region this morning in my car. Took about an hour.

On a semi-related note: If you begin the map update process and need to step out of your car (to grab a bite to eat for example), the update does not continue in the background, but instead is paused until you return to the vehicle and resume your drive. The update picks up where it left off.
