In any event, if I go there, it would be the SUV. If I go sedan, it will likely be S or 7. Hard to say, lots of pretty hardware, and I have some time before the next round. I should be able to adequately confuse myself as the days go by!

I'm not talking about want, I'm talking about suitability to the task. The Lucid has both more, and better storage, than the I7 or EQS, and it's hardly a slum in there even if it is less luxurious. Either way, a trade-off is being made; you pick your poison.

BMW makes some interesting vehicles. I never considered a hybrid before seeing this plug-in wagon:
I really like Isle of Man Green too.

BMW has issued a “Stop Sale” on all new 7 Series and many other models, due to a potentially defective brake system component. Evidently, the part is used in some other makes as well and could affect up to 300K+ vehicles. My car is being held at the BMW VDC and there is no estimate as to when it may be released. Most likely, I will not be taking delivery, but you never know. I’m looking into alternatives, but just may stay in my S560 for a while and set my sights on the 2026 mid-cycle facelift model.

Happy to hear you got the S 560 back after being on the shop for a few weeks if I recalled correctly?

Can you tell us what happened? In a different thread but can you link us, is it something like forum member SW20S' valve cover or was it something else. Your thread and/or post would help other W222 owners in preventing what you had from happening or mitigate or at least know the tell tale signs. Thank you.

Given the reliability of W222, I don't recall reading anything that requires staying for over a month. At least that is true for the facelift W222. I wonder what it may be then.

I post in the W222 forum and had a W222 and I have no idea what could have been wrong with his S560, even though apparently I should...oh well lol
As for not taking the car Streamliner, just wait for it. You've waited this long. This stop sale won't last very long. I get the frustration, thats why I prefer to buy cars on the ground vs ordering. I'd be pissed too but not taking delivery of the car you've waited 6 months for because of a further delay of a few weeks when you don't have a pressing need and have a good car to drive until it comes in just doesn't make sense.

My understanding is that the pecking order for parts availability is production, sold cars that are undelivered, floored cars, and then sold and delivered cars. I've been in this type of hold a couple of times and didin't wait very long. That said, I do recall over at Porsche some of the guys waited months. Cant remember what that was, I wasn't affected. When I think about it, it's a crap shoot I guess, which is what I get for typing before thinking.
In any event, I agree with SW, you're not going to need the deposit to eat, and you've got nothing to lose in the near term by waiting it out. As you describe it, I don't see that changing unless some other new shiny catches your eye?

I'm surprised they let you drive it yesterday. My understanding is that the dealers were not allowed to offer test drives. Anyway, good for you. What did you think after the second drive?

The new 7 series has one issue that is eating away at my excitement over the car: Owners are complaining of tremendous heat coming from the fixed, glass roof and through the almost uselessly thin, retractable cover. In addition, and to me much more importantly, the front A/C vents are ridiculously tiny with even tinier controls. Owners are really complaining about this, saying that cooling the car can be dicey. The fact that Mrs. Stream is very fussy about airflow & temperatures in the car and is constantly adjusting her side, is giving me pause on my incoming I7.
I recently took another test drive at another dealer. I purposely chose a dealer in a warmer location, came unannounced, around 1pm and specifically asked to drive a new I7, with black leather, that appeared to have been baking in the sun all day. It was like driving in a SAUNA! I asked the salesman if the A/C was on full and after he futzed with the frigging screen, he said it was, to which I replied “ARE YOU KIDDING ME??? We drove a few miles, took the car on the freeway and it did not quickly get much better. The salesman said “if you would have made an appointment, I could have pre-cooled the car for you.” Little did he know.
In the all electric I7, you can pre-cool it with use of an APP, but being the old guy that I am, I don’t want to hear about such things. When I got back into my now “baking in the sun” S560, with the comparatively GIGANTIC A/C vents, I let out a “YES!” as I very easily cranked the system up to “BLIZZARD CONDITIONS,” and merrily drove away.
It seems to be a given that the HVAC system will receive a much needed rework with the 7 Series facelift slated for 2026, along with the addition of rear view “video mirrors,” hopefully some additional physical buttons & such, etc. I’ve also heard noises about an actual “FACELIFT,” for the reasonably polarizing exterior design.
All that said, my deposit still stands and I will reserve my final decision until after I take an extended test drive in the I7 I ordered. In the meantime, I am looking at everything else out there—again.

The problem with ordering a car from a maker you have not experienced for almost 30 years—my last BMW was a 1995 750il—is that you have plenty of time to learn about your choice, especially now in the connected world we live in.

I have no idea, but the folks screaming the loudest are in places like Texas, Florida, etc. If something like that is part of the cars, I’m quite sure the dealers would be offering it.

When our M8 came out, the majority of cars had broken AC units which required major component replacements. We didn't discover this until it got hot 5 months later (got it in December) but that also ended up in a stop sale. On the opposite end our earlier 2012 750iL would always have a low battery error which resulted in the heater not working during MN winters. In their wisdom, BMW engineers designed the software logic to disable the heater to run all other convenience systems instead (such as radio, massage and seat heaters). No fun with subzero temps. The battery would also not charge enough even when driving 30 miles a day and required trickle charging as well. BMW engineers eventually showed up in MN and changed the software logic for MY13.
