map question - car vs red arrow icon

i only recently noticed that the icon that represents the car on the nav (both the dash and the primary screens) changes from being a mini version of the car to the standard red arrow right around 15mph.
is there a way to keep it from automatically changing to the red arrow?

I'm afraid this cannot be changed.

I wonder if it is a safety thing, apparently MB thinks an arrow is safer than having a car image at higher speeds?

Could be. But a readable size car would also block too much of the map when zoomed out. At low speed and high zoom near by streets would not be affected.

The car can be resized just like everything else on the map. Look at the size of the arrow when it's zoomed out; you could easily tell which way is front and back with a similar sized car icon. I could do it and I'm a pathetic old man who has to wear glasses to drive. Not that it matters, think about it; you don't actually pay attention to the arrow to know which way the car is going. You can see the map moving, you know you're in head or north up. You dont look to the arrow to tell you which way you're going; what you get out of it is; I am here.

It is possible - you just need to uncheck the 'auto zoom' function in your map settings. See the effect here.

also true, at least when it comes to MBUSA with their trim levels for cars, not being able to option something with a certain trim line as an example.

Turn off Autozoon and the car icon will remain.
