A and B Service Costs for an AMG V8

I know there seems to be a ton of variance when it comes to routine maintenance at the dealership. The differences are almost criminal, which I really don’t get. There’s a lot of obscurity and people seem unwilling to share their price because of this obscurity and insane price differences between dealerships.

Well, I was able to get a formal quote from the dealership I’m buying my AMG GT from, which is located 60 miles away from me. The three dealers close to me, which are owned by the same group, would constantly give me the run around when trying to get a quote. The dealer I’m using is a smaller dealer in a much smaller town.

I must say, this isn’t bad at all considering some of the values being mentioned elsewhere. I know AMG service usually comes with a price premium as well. Based on these values, and assuming minimal inflation, three year’s worth of service is just north of $2k, making the prepaid maintenance a ripoff considering it’s usually well north of that value. Mind you, every dealership is different, and it wouldn’t surprise me if my local dealer charges out the wazoo for ‘A’ and ‘B’ service.

This is comical -- you ask for an itemization of pre-paid maintenance, so the service guy divides the total into 2 labor prices and 1 parts price that just happen to total the original quote. He probably did this during his potty break.

Chill out. I didn’t ask for any itemization. I just asked for a quote for the first A and B service. Not everyone is capable of working on their own cars or willing to trust an indy, assuming there is even one available near them.

This is why people are hesitant to share their service cost. We need more people sharing as a means to educate.

Why wouldn't you want an itemization? How do you know what they will do or have done? I guess you either trust them or don't care. Good luck.

Anyone care to share what they paid for ‘A’ and ‘B’ services for their S?

Cost of maintenance of Mbenz cars during all these Service A and B intervals at any Mbenz dealer is seriously "crime" territory in terms of pricing. It should be factored as part of the ownership cost. I've never seen any more BS than Mbenz Service A and B pricing. Porsche charges high dollars the same way, I know, but most other brands charge only 120-170 USD for the annual service for the same exact service items. Even filters are overly priced for Mbenz when they cost 20-40 USD in all other brands, yet they are made by the same main manufacturers. Not to mention that with BMW, for the first 3 years you actually pay $0 per visit (including brake fluid as part of the visits when needed, all filters, as well as spark plugs when needed).

I pay 350-450 USD for my GLS (most other dealers ask 500-700 USD), and the same exact service items used to cost me 0 for the first 3 years, and then 150 USD per year for my X7. There are always offers for 3 years package for 225 USD covering fluids (unlimited miles or unlimited 10K intervals, for 3-years)

I only see a quote for the first two services. They get more expensive after that because the transmission and rear differential becomes due at various intervals. Rear diff is at 30k if I remember correctly. Transmission service somewhere around there, too. Prepaid is for the first 4 services, so it covers one rear diff and one transmission service. Those are the big ones. Three years ago, B service with transmission was quoted at around $1800 to me if I remember correctly. The transmission service is time consuming on these cars. The basic A and B services match about what they quoted you.

BTW, next big item are brakes if you have them done at a dealership, which I don't recommend. Expect around 16k miles out of a set and north of $6000 for a complete job at a dealership. You have to go out and source your own parts and have them done at an indy if you don't wanna bend over and pay that.

EDIT: Oh, you are getting the 55, so you won't have the locking rear differential. Not sure if the standard diff also has a service interval. I believe there's also a service interval for the 4Matic+ clutch in the front. I don't have that with my RWD.

The short of it is that AMGs have more serviceable items and parts are more expensive because they are designed for higher performance and you will go through consumables faster. That's where it adds up to $$$. Tires are more expensive and you will need new ones from often, same goes for the brakes. Obviously a major factor is how you gonna be driving the car. Grandma style or the way it's meant to be. I don't know about you, but a major reason I have an AMG is because I'm not driving it like a would drive a Toyota Camry or even a regular Mercedes-Benz. Gotta pay to play as they say.

Thanks, Mem. Appreciate it.

Listen, no judgement on what you paid. It’s just the reality of how variable these costs are. I’m hoping others will share as this info can provide a good baseline and talking point for your SA.

Also, I know the other services get more expensive, but I’m just concerned about the “routine” stuff, which shouldn’t have these wild variances in my opinion.
