Wannabees, I saw one of those special S550 AMG models here a few weeks ago. Obviously not a one of a kind. Years ago a friend of mine installed a amg badge on his S420 W140. I laughed at him until he took it off, that took about two weeks. Friends don't let friends pose.

It probably came like that from the dealer. I've seen many brand-new AMG-badged C-Class cars. I think it's just a cosmetic package that they add to the cars and then upcharge big bucks.

When the step up to the plate and get the engine to back the badge then it's all good. Me personally I like no badges (think of the movie Blazing Saddles "We don't need no stinking badges").. I like the clean rear end look, plus it gives people in BMW's hope that it is yet another slow *** s430 with some rims on it. Oh how wrong some have been.

I debadged my 300E and idiots say "Hey, nice 260E"! With the debadged 500E, I get "hey that sure is a nice 300E" I guess people think when you debadge, it's smaller and your trying to hide that.
At the dragstrip, I've been asked what times I am getting, and then say something real stupid "that's good for a 300E" Yeh it would be!!!

You would be surprised how many of my customers who have driven Mercedes cars for over 20 years and don't know what AMG is. It would be hard to impress an unknowledgeable and uninterested person.

I wouldn't call what superchet posted as "posing"...he didnt' have kompressor on the sides did he?
It's more like false hopes/ignorant/stupidity than "posing"

What AFAST1 mentioned is "posing"-when going all out

Dealer should charge these s500/550 amg cars the same as the real s55/63/s65 amgs for the brakes, other services...
Imagine how quickly the owners will take off that badge

I thought all the sport package cars had the AMG badge, almost every S-Class with the sport package i've seen has it on the trunk. Hell you pay dearly for the option, guess seeing the badge there makes you feel a little better.

I'm not saying that it's ok to put an AMG badge on a non-AMG car, but at least one with sport package has AMG rims and body kit...I saw an SL500 today on the way to work NO SPORT PACKAGE OR WHEELS with "AMG" on the rear bumper. I was disgusted.

I think some people are way too touchy on this poser issue. You surely must have something more important in life to worry about than that! Ok, so someone is getting a little fun out of putting an AMG badge on their car; big deal. I guess if I paid a boatload of extra $$$$$ for an AMG package I'd be a little annoyed at seeing a car trying to pass off for the same thing. The feeling however would last maybe 3 seconds. Those who are moved to use floss to removed the tags should really get counseling. It is only a car, relax.

Most of us AMG owners get a kick out of it at the sake of the morons who think they are fooling someone. So as an AMG owner I will correct you, I'm not annoyed by the posers, imitation is the sincerest form of flattery.. Your comments say a little something about you though.
A lot of uninformed people believe it's just a couple things, such as wheels and body kit. There is an AMG sport package for non-AMG cars, Then there is an AMG car, just a little difference. AMG is a seperate Mercedes tuner that was bought and brought under the corporate umbrella to offer higher performance cars.
Since you made the comment about the $$$ and you haven't filled in your personal info, you're obviously not an AMG owner. I'll let you in on a little secret, you get what you pay for. I haven't met a real AMG owner that has said "I wish I had bought an S500/E500/ML500 etc. instead" You don't buy one for status, you buy it for performance. You buy a Maybach for status.
Take the emblem off and it's still a AMG.

Posing is posing. I don't agree. Give the vin number to the dealer and they will tell you it's not an AMG. Your insurance will reflect that it's not an AMG and MOST importantly, it's performance will reflect that it's NOT an AMG.

Either there are a lot of posers in your area or real ones. I don't see an AMG on every car with a sport package, just the posers. Maybe if laughter is the best medicine, it helps make you feel better. It does make me laugh and take pictures to post and make the others laugh.

It's not an AMG so it is posing. If he had put E320 label on the rear it would still be posing. Posing is labeling a car as something it is not. It's generally not done for a lesser model, however I did think think about installing the 300E emblem with magnetic tape on the back of 500E (wolf in sheep's clothing for the dragstrip events) until delabeling the car gets the same reaction from people who don't have an eye for the difference.. The real funny part is the people that do recognize the difference asking me if it is a "real 500E" despite the lack of an emblem like I'm posing.

Unfortunately i see those all the time. The funny thing is, the people they're trying to fool know it's not an AMG, and then there are the other's who don't know what an AMG is, so they could care less. It's a lose, lose situation really.

My son recently got a C280 that he wants to pose as a C43. It has the AMG rims and exhaust. He wants to order the tags to put on it so he can fool his friends in high school. I don't really care. If I had a nice AMG MB I would actually take off the badges to ambush unsuspecting victims. I agree that it is the engine that makes the AMG. But I don't see the reason to get bent out of shape about posers. Kind of fun to snicker at the real bad ones.

I also think people make a big deal out of nothing with this. I certainly would never rebadge my car and think it's ridiculous to those who do.....but I also don't think AMG cars are the high-almighty cars to end the world.

Some people say they get AMG's for the performance when they could get another car with the same or better performance for alot less money (like a new Vette, etc).

Others say they get them because they are exclusive and cost more.....yet, what would you rather have.....a new S550 or a 6 year old CLK AMG, E55, etc. The guy may be a poser for trying to pose as an S63-especially if I owned a S63....but I am not sure how other AMG owners whose cars (even if new) are 25k-30k less than a normal 550 are all offended.

I went for a 500 only because I put way too many miles on my cars (28k last year alone) and will not take the depreciation hit on a SL55-especially considering the only difference is the engine and I'm not going to be able to use that power downtown where I live.

Yeah I see a few clowns around my area once in a while.

I saw one like an E320 CDI with AMG on right side.

Confused poser?

In Ladera Ranch, California, there is a 2006 S500 with the S500 removed and Maybach put in it's place. In Mission Viejo, California, there is a C240 with AMG added.

Coming from another guy who doesn't have a clue about AMG. Why aren't you following your own advice by driving a vette, saving your big bucks whilst doing so?
Did you read this thread before commenting? Again have you heard any AMG owners say they wished they had bought a non AMG instead? If so please post the link so I can be taught something here. As far as what you say people buy AMG's for, I haven't been hearing that. A vette wouldn't suit my needs and I would rather drive a SL500 than it anyway-no offense.
