Nitrogen Filled Tires
As you know many tire shops are filling up tires with nitrogen. Claimed benefits are nitrogen molecules are larger so less leakage, less corrosion damage inside the tire due to lower moisture content, etc. All race cars and aircraft tires have used nitrogen for a long time.
What do you think of the benefits of nitrogen, worth it or not?

True, that is a good point and if you have to add air on your own a few times then it gets even more diluted and almost like air.
The fact that race cars and aircraft tires use nitrogen though still intrigues me.

Waste of money.
I have went into a lot of detail about this in other threads, and let me just say it one more time.
PV=NRT.
So no matter what gas you use, helium, acetylene, nitrogen, argon, air, etc. They will ALL expand when they heat up.
One of the guys on the C63 road raced his nitrogen filled car, and was surprised that his pressure when up after lapping![rolf](https://mbworld.org/forums/images/smilies/rofl.gif)
I reminded him of the obvious.
As far as water damage
. I guess if you left your tires on for 4-5 years maybe, emphasis maybe.
Bottom line, SAVE YOUR MONEY

Waste of money, not to mention it is not recommended by MB.
Race cars and aircrafts are filled with pure nitrogen, that comes from a gas supply company. The equipment used in the auto repair field only filters atmosphere...and truthfully of the machines I've seen, they only reach a purity of 92-95%. If there is even 1% of atmosphere in the mixture, it completely negates the advantages.
They also claim you do not have to maintain tire pressure...I have yet to see a car filled with nitrogen not be low on pressure in between services. If you read the spec sheet below, it even states that it only filters to 95-98% purity.

As to MB not recommending nitrogen, my local MB Dealer recommends Nitrogen, in fact they advertise taking you car there for nitrogen replacement for $60. For all new tires they sell and install, they fill with nitrogen as well.
My Sunday AM routine is to check all three cars: oil level, coolant, brake fluid, power steering and tire pressure. Two cars are typically low 2 PSI every 2-3 weeks, the nitrogen filled car gets low every 8 months. Coincidence or .......

There have been college PHD disertations about this posted on the web site.
IMHO, get rid of the moisture and you eliminate 99.9% of anything that will bother you on the road. If you are a SLS AMG GT3 trying to get the last 10nth out of the Nurburing, then use N2.
