Buying a 2015 E63S - what to look for?

Am about to purchase a 2015 E63 AMG S this weekend after having a 2003 C32 for 12 years now and been a exceptional car.

I have searched the boards and found some excellent into here (links below) about 2015 model year E63.

What I'm looking for is owner feedback here about known issues or concerns with a a 2015 E63 S if there are any specific things to look for?

Below are some much appreciated posts on the boards here about the 2015 E63 that i have read through and thankfully not finding any specific issues but again would welcome input from owners on the boards here.

Thx JV

appreciate the input guys... sounds like 2015 models were pretty problem free.

assume a pre-purchase inspection would be wise still?

2015's anecdotally were no more problematic than the 2014 and 2016 models; in other words you're fine getting the 2015

just drive a 2016 and see if you like the trans better

both from what I recall; I've been meaning to drive to the dealer and drive a 2016 e63 and see what it drives like

oops, I some how missed it. So I can see MCT software updates, but I wonder what it would be different with respect to hardware?

Also, what was changed in the COMAND system?

Thanks,

J.

command visually is refreshed and is similar to command in the w205 c class; I like the new command and my dad has it in his 2016 e350

its unclear what exactly has been updated exactly but several people that were at a Benz event reported the 2016 was smoother and then mct less jerky; berndV can give a testimonial of his 2016 and others can talk about the jerky 2014-2015 mct

FF. W212 E63 M156 non-pano 18" P2 ParkT NightV (gone but will be missed).
MBrace free for 5 years for 2016+ means no one is signing up for it after the trial period.

2016 E63 S AMG
The 2016 MCT is a bit smoother than the 2015. When I purchased mine, the dealer had one loaded Palladium Silver 2015 left that was being sold for invoice. I drove it but decided the significant COMAND improvements were worth spending the extra money on the 2016 (I was trading a 2014 E550).

Peter - value your input as a e63 owner and appreciate all your insightful posts.

Curious would you recommend buying a 2015 lower mile e63 and paying more since it should have 2+ years of warranty? Or buying a 2014 with higher miles and significant discount and out of warranty?

From my past couple Months of looking at 2015 and 2014 models, it appears you can find a high mileage 2014 e63 with no warranty for about 55k The 2015 e63 with average to low miles and 2+ years of warranty go for about 75 or 80k more or less.

im of the opinion that it's with the extra 25k or so to buy the 2015 with lower miles and warranty remaining since AMG repairs are ridiculous..... but tempting seeing some awesome 2014 e63s with high miles and able to buy in the 50k range.

I think I know the answer (2015, low miles) but again curious for your perspective as a fellow chicagoan.

thx

thanks for your kind words and glad I can be helpful

as we speak my car is in the shop with an airmatic malfunction ... A fix will be about $1500 out of warranty and I have a 2014 e63s that I bought new and bought the ELW warranty too. The car only has 15,000 miles on it. It's not likely the engine and drive train that are going to cost you on these cars .. It's the complicated systems and electeonics

so that being said I believe in buying 2015 cpo or non cpo with the oem warranty in tact.... Yeah you may never have problems on that 2014 with 45,000 miles but you also may.... And it could cost you! It's about some peace of mind and what is more important -- value or peace of mind

Also keep in mind where the used car is in its maintenance life:

costly tires need to be replaced? $1500
brakes and rotors? $2000 oem
service B? $500
brake fluid flush, spark plugs at 60,000 miles? $1000
Lsd oil change at 60,000 miles: $400
(rough estimates)

some would argue just save the cash and buy 2014 and keep the cash on the side for any costly repairs that may come your way... If they don't come your way you just saved that money

My 2012 just hit 40k miles. Second time the airmatic has been replaced/repaired since new. Over $2k in parts and labor (they replaced just about everything), and its back at the dealership over air escaping noises while driving (new one).

2014 CPO

I just picked up a 2014 CPO from the dealer for $59K with 38K miles. so I;m good until 2019 and unlimited miles. Also picked up the MB warranty extension for 2 years for $5K. Thing is, if you sell before it starts you get a refund. Car is perfect (including the black AMG wheels), new tires, etc. Keep looking, you'll know when it hits you. .99% financing and they pay first payment. Good all around.
