shift badge?

Please tell me the proper name of this part. After some paint work and a detail my shift badge is now loose and falls off when I touch it. I either want to secure it or replace it, maybe with an AMG badge,

In the EPC, you have to replace the entire knob. The part number is A2312670000 9E38. But the insert is not a separate item.

Check this:

The AMG knob may fit. It looks like the stem is the same on both AMG and non-AMG cars. The eBay link above says you can install the AMG knob on other models. Got $300?

Tha AMG part number is A2182600000 9E38 or A2182600240 9E38.

Normally the top part of the shifter clips in place…

What does the BACK of the leather top piece look like?
Do you see any broken clips in either the lower metal or top leather panel?

Clear pics will help isolate exactly what is broken (or maybe bent)
You could also try 3M VHB tape before you buy a $300 shifter from Latvia.

this is what your shifter should look like:

The leather-wrapped plastic top piece has 3 catches, one of which just now “let go” and broke off. Too small to attempt gluing back together I may just put some Loctite on the two remaining catches.

I would try some super tacky putty or bonding glue or gel (like the stuff they attach credit cards with when mailed to you) and put it on that post or in the hole to hold it together. Not even sure how to remove the knob.

This happened to me. I just used silicone adhesive/caulk and replaced the leather cover. It hasn't been an issue in over 2 years

Mine peeled off in my hand on a hot day last year in PA…I’m sure I’ll experience it again down here in MS soon…if I find a solution I’ll post it. Probably some silicone adhesive would do the trick….

The most permanent solution I’ve found is 3M VHB tape, cut & “layered” strategically. Silicone isn’t a bad approach either.
The older MB’s had the top of the shifter/emblem taped on from the factory with 3M type adhesive tape. That stuff really is amazing. They bond car panels with it instead of welding them!

Whichever approach you use, it’s imperative to clean both surfaces, metal and plastic (NOT the Leather ) thoroughly with alcohol and q-tips and let it dry completely.

Good Luck!

FYI, super glue worked! Took two tries with tweezers and magnification but it’s solid now.
