New MB Recall for Blank Center Screen

The center screen on my 25 GLC 350e went dark again (third time it’s happened) a couple weeks ago. The dealer reloaded the software, but it went dark again before they could return it to me. They said they were ordering a new computer for it and sent me home with the car. Then a week later it started working again all on its own. The next day I received an OTA update for the center display to improve ‘robustness’. It installed OK.

I read today of a new recall for the GLC as well as many other MB models due to software issues with MBUX.

The article is here: https://www.autoblog.com/news/recall...uster-blackout

You can see if your VIN is included at nhtsa.gov. My VIN is a part of the recall. The fix is to install new software. I’m hoping this will end this problem.

Was this recall not resolved with the recent OTA screen software update that we received about a month ago? I just got my car back from service yesterday and the only software update that they did was for a recall on battery management and battery charging. None of the updates were screen related.

It says the dealers are being notified May 8 and letters to owners will go out June 26. The recall is dated May 1.

all screen off

I had all screen going blank in my 2025. I was stranded in the parking lot decided to drive as I was in a rush. Luckily, drove low speed and low traffic. After 6 min of driving blind, it all came back. Dealer updated software.

Looks like this correlates with MBUX 3.0. Luckily my 2023 with MBUX 2.0 is not affected. A rare case where MY 2023 does not have something that needs to be updated/corrected/fixed.

2024 X254 GLC300 center screen update

I've already updated the central control screen software on may , but some problems have arisen. Now, my car's person and object detection function is malfunctioning when reversing; only the reversing alarm function works. The Mercedes dealer says they removed this feature due to numerous customer complaints. I don’t know ? Anyone have same problems ?

Sounds like horsepuckey to me. Ours has it and I certainly would object to having such a feature removed without prior consent.

Just hit my e350 4matic

Yesterday I was about 10 miles from home and 25 miles from my Dealer when it happened. Parked at DMV license photoshop and then had a coffee. When I stated car everything was blank. Just had a digital speed display and external temperature reading. Called Mercedes Customer Service and Dealership. No help from either. Radio was working and AC was on - freezing. Couldn't adjust either because MBUX Assistant was not working. Had to drive about 45 min to Dealership to get software update which they knew about! The car sat in Dealership for 26 hours before they looked at it. Now they've discovered that they need to do three or four updates to fix the instrument panel, the MBUX, the MBUX assistant and god knows what else. I may have the car tomorrow after 48 hours plus, but I will not trust it!

I have called NHTSA and launched a formal complaint with Mercedes USA. Their service sucks. They didn't even know there was a recall. My Dealership knew about it but their policy is to apply the updates only when a customer encounters the issue!!! This is beyond insane.

By the way, for all the models involved, the owners are going to encounter the problem 100%. The only sensible solution would be to call in the vehicles for the fix. That is, if the fix works. I don’t know how to put this in the W214 forum as well, but all my fellow E Class owners need to know about this as well. Woe betide any who encounter this hundreds of miles from home base.

According to the news release, MB chose to do a recall instead of just pushing an OTA update to ensure all affected cars are fixed. What is interesting is my VIN showed the recall on the NHTSA site when I first looked. Now it shows no recalls apply to my car. I think the update the dealer did when it was in the shop (mentioned in my original post) was the same software being used for the recall. The Hey Mercedes voice has completely changed, another indicator the software is new, not just a re-install.

Can you tell us the version it was updated to? The voice change was mentioned before as well.

Same as the W214 E-Class forum members that noticed the sound changed: https://mbworld.org/forums/e-class-w...ml#post9287568

I just read the other post. Thanks. I don’t think the new voice is monotone like the other user said. In fact, she has some personality. Today, with no input from me, she asked me how I was doing. When I replied, she said to have a good day.

You're welcome. Do you mind recording the sound for us forum members to hear? You don't have to if you don't want to and/or don't have time, don't worry too much about it.

Greetings,
Slightly off topic, but I'm in my first Mercedes after years in Jaguar, Alfa Romeo and most recently Maserati. I think the voice activated response with personality is great and makes me smile every time I interact with it. Kudos to whoever at Mercedes R&D came up with the idea and how to implement it. Also, the functionality of the MBUX system is far beyond what I was used to in Italian cars. The Mercedes system isn't perfect, but it actually works and does what it says it will do.
Ymmv,
Bob
