I've noticed that there is a lack of information regarding mods for the R231. So I thought that I'd start a thread on documenting some of the possible modifications that can be done, along with what mods we have done to our cars. The mods on this list may not be possible on some models of cars, such as those with or without the AMG styling package, or with different motors.
My SL has had a pre-facelift SL63-style lip spoiler, 295's in the rear, and the middle mufflers deleted. But I know that a ton of other mods are possible too.
I have
1) SmartTop
2) Boot lip spoiler (facelift version).
I purchased my car new and specified everything else that I wanted so (for me even 4 years on) no other mods needed (although I do like the Panamerica grille).
You forgot the most easy/cheap and HP booster and incomparable cooling kit, the water/meth injection kit, to me the best upgrade overall on a turbo car, I got mine from Weistec (also a No1 tuner) because all has been prepared for your engine type You totally forgot Kleemann to me one of the 3 best tuners
SprintBoost (adjusts throttle response) is JUNK
Eurocharged tunes not really good
OETuning tunes a joke
VividRacing tunes a joke
Racechip a joke

Who makes a meth injection kit specifically for the R231?
Does anyone make headers for any of the R231 cars?
I don't think so. I also don't see any reason at all you'd want to upgrade the stock manifolds. Headers aren't going to be worth it, especially considering that the downpipe will be the most restrictive part of the exhaust system.
hum hum
you didn't dig deep enough
what about the V12 twinturbo
I have that kit on mine
Yes, they do have them for the V12 - I mentioned it on my list that the AMG motors are compatible. As for the 4.7, I entered 2014 SL550 and it didn't show any meth kits, but it did when i put 2014 SL400 - so I will not add the 4.7 to the list since according to the website, they don't make a kit for it.
Keon, I appreciate your post. It says a lot but doesn’t tell me much. I have a 2014 SL550 and I cannot get a clear answer on what fits and what doesn’t. From what I have found all mods fits the SL63 model. I’d like to get a rear spoiler, possibly mods to the front clip but when I go to various sites and put in my model it comes back as doesn’t fit vehicle. I also need a front spoiler scrape guard, any thoughts?

I am about to purchase a new grill for my 2014 R231 (below). Does anyone know which emblem will fit this grill without me purchasing multiple stars? https://www.ebay.com/itm/185388409956
'17 SL450, '17 Volt, '17 Malibu Hybrid, '96 Corvette GS coupe

...Wavetrac LSD (part 48.309.185WK) ... not sure if only for AMG...
I'm told this will fit my SL450 with some light internal grinding of the housing for clearance. Still considering this, as a few times I've experienced traction control interference and early up-shift occurrences when exiting corners briskly. I am wondering if it will induce understeer, though...as the car is currently pleasantly neutral.

Mercedes chose the Drexler clutch type LSD for it’s AMG cars (until it went to the elecronic locking differentials) for that reason. Good mannered for a road car, especially a car with a slight tendency to under steer. It’s a 1.5 way limited slip, Lock under acceleration and deceleration are different/adjustable. wiki/Limited-slip_differential
You can find them more abundantly in E63’s and CLS63’s, but they came in SL63’s too. I believe AMG has spec’d. 35/40 lock on these 2-way Drexler’s. 35% under acceleration and 40% under deceleration. I believe the Black Series HAG215 diffs are set at 40/50.
I found a very low mileage unit for $700. You can swap the carrier if you like, but the diff itself is a bolt in if you find a low mileage unit and don’t want to bother swapping carriers. (probably cheaper that way just make sure the gear ratio is the same). Installation is easy. You don’t have to drop the exhaust or the driveshaft. Just pull the half shafts, unbolt the rear flex coupler, front diff mount and the 2 large bolts on the rear cover holding the rear diff. case in place. Can do it all In one day.

Did you do the grill swap? Considering it myself after seeing these online. Beautiful.
Include pictures please if you have.
