The new SL is an absolutely fantastic platform. I had the opportunity to drive both the SL55 and SL63 on track and backroads for a total of roughly 100 miles. It amazed me how well it transitioned from a track carving race car to a GT roadster with the new suspension setup.

You nailed it. It was just luck of the draw and my dealership sent me down to Alabama for two days. At this point Mercedes-Benz has made official announcements about the car so I don't really have any fun "secret" information any longer. I'm just excited to see the SL 63 E Performance which they unfortunately did not have available during those two days.
Earlier last month, Gordon Wagner himself leaked the SL43/53 front end on Instagram and then later deleted the post, although it still can be found in this thread. Now, MBUSA has updated their SL page and interestingly the image on the page has an SL with certain features that don't fit with the current 55 and 63 US models. First the car has quad circular tailpipes, typically used on 43/53 models, as well as smaller multi-spoke wheels which aren't available on the ordering guide, as well as the white interior that that was featured on the initial interior reveal but also not on the ordering guide. Despite the news and rumors regarding the SL43/53 not coming to the US, the car is also pictured with US bumperettes.

Side mirrors and wheels appear to be BMW-ish yet the rear exhaust very much looks like a non AMG Merc. The rear headlight line (of that we can see) cuts down into both the bootline and bumper akin to a merc.
Who knows, yet judging only from the side mirrors and wheels I’d say it’s a Beemer!?

I agree it's the best looking SL in a long time. My only quibble concerns the fake vents on the front fenders -- the modern equivalent of the "portholes" on a 1950s Buick. Who thought that was a good idea?
But that's minor, of course. I can't wait for mine to arrive. No idea when it will be here, nor how much it will cost. Bring it on.
Overall the best looking SL for a long time. Can't wait to drive the car and compare it to our GTC

Agree with the sentiments above, the R230 and especially the 231 were not my cup of tea, this looks much more modern and striking. The last two SL's have been a bit too feminine for my tastes, and I never could stand the looks with the hardtop up.
Also agree about the side vent, its annoyingly become a feature of modern AMG's and M's, although luckily not something that takes away from the overall great design. I think something like the E63's side badging design would work better. Still a bit fake but definitely better.
